FGMS: MOA Luau Was a Great Success

Forest Grove Middle School’s Marine Oceanographic Academy hosted a MOA Luau at Causeway Cove Marina. When parents, community members, and educators work together it equals student success!! MOA’s annual fish fry is a great example of that success!! Thank you to everyone who came out to support our MOA program! Seeing our students enjoying the sea life they learn about every day gives us reassurance that our marine life is loved and in great hands.

FGMS: In Ms. Roselin’s 6th Grade Math Class Students Coach Each Other

In Ms. Roselin‘s 6th Grade math class, the students participated in an around-the-room activity where students took their clipboards and in groups of four, went to four different stations, and solved practice problems involving mixed number multiplication, adding and subtracting decimals and determining place values. This is all to prepare for their next lesson on dividing fractions!

FGMS: In Mrs. Proctor’s Class, Learning Math is Sweet!

At Forest Grove Middle School, Mrs. Proctors’ 6th grade math classes had an exciting day, filled with learning fun. Students were practicing ratios with Skittles! Students sorted their skittles by color, compared part to part and part to whole, and wrote the ratios three different ways! The students were ecstatic to learn about ratios in a new way!  

FGMS Hosts Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT)

SWAT provides FGMS Students with tools that empower youth to take control of the fight against Big Tobacco. Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) is Florida’s statewide youth organization working to mobilize, educate, and equip Florida youth to revolt against and de-glamorize Big Tobacco. It is a united movement of empowered youth working towards a tobacco-free future. SWAT is designed to create a youth-led, youth-driven club that will work toward the prevention of tobacco use and addiction in local schools and communities.

FGMS 1st Annual Purple vs Gold Basketball PBIS Event was one for the records! Fort Pierce Central High School Varsity Basketball and Cheer Teams did an amazing job representing the Cobra Nation. FGMS: Grade 8 Advanced Science Class Creates Model of Sun

Mr. Tygesson’s 8th-grade Advanced Science students demonstrate their knowledge of the composition of a star by utilizing their artistic ability to create a model of the Sun. In this activity, students worked collaboratively in groups to create a model of the Sun’s interior layers (core, radiative zone, and convection zone), atmosphere (photosphere, chromosphere, and corona), and solar activity (prominences, solar flares, and sunspots) and implemented the properties of all layers into their model. Standard: SC.8.E.5.6 Create models of solar properties including: rotation, structure of the Sun, convection, sunspots, solar flares, and prominences.

FGMS Celebrates World Down Syndrome Day with Crazy Socks

March 21 (3-21) is a symbolic date to celebrate people with Down Syndrome and those who live and work with them throughout the world. The date, 3-21, represents Trisomy 21, the medical term for Down syndrome, which is the third replication of the 21st chromosome. As part of the celebration around the world, people are encouraged to wear crazy socks. The crazy sock initiative was formed to get people talking and asking questions about Down Syndrome.

FGMS Bulldogs Win Reading Competition

Superintendent Gent, School Board Member Jennifer Richardson, and Executive Director Adrian Ocampo made a visit to Forest Grove Middle School to congratulate Mrs. Barbara Redic’s 6th-grade 4th period reading class for winning the Reading Plus “Race to 21” competition. Mrs. Redic’s students came in first place, beating out other middle schools throughout Florida and Georgia. Mrs. Redic’s students completed over 50,000 reading lessons over a period of time with scores of 80% or higher. Way to go Bulldogs!!!!

FGMS: Bulldog Athletes Visit Clover Park

With a combined GPA of 3.3, a 93% daily attendance rate, daily after school practices, 87% improvement in overall behavior, late afterschool and weekend games, one championship win, and five berths to semifinals we were able to celebrate the end of our athletic season with a trip to Clover Park for Education Day! Our students were extremely appreciative of the opportunity and enjoyed every minute of the experience!
