Kindergarten students in Carmela Gauthier’s class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition celebrated their 100th day of school. Students and staff dressed up for the celebration and had many activities throughout the day using 100. This was a fun way to learn, and the students enjoyed the learning experience.
Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s National Junior Beta Club members brought in items to donate to the local animal shelter. Our members are reaching out and finding opportunities to help our local community. Thank you, Beta Club members!

On Thursday, January 21, 2016, students, parents, and staff at St. Lucie Elementary participated in Literacy Night. In addition to the many other events SLE hosts to promote and support family involvement, teachers and staff lovingly served dinner and provided a variety of skill-based literacy activities for parents and children to partake. Literacy Night is an innovative way to provide children and parents with various reading techniques. Participants were involved in the five components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonic, reading comprehension, reading fluency, and vocabulary development). On Friday January 22, 2016, St. Lucie Elementary students who honored Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy during the parade were rewarded with an ice cream social. The participating students received a little break from class to enjoy ice cream with a variety of toppings served up by SLE staff in gratitude of their time and efforts contributed as well as their community spirit.

SLPS, in collaboration with many community sponsors, facilitated the annual early childhood conference which brought together nearly 200 public and private early childhood educators for the specific purpose of enhancing early childhood education. White City celebrates integrity at this month’s citizen of the month ceremony. A student in each class was selected by the teacher for demonstrating the character trait of integrity. Integrity is showing good moral character, being honest, doing the right thing consistently and meeting challenges with a good attitude. Wildcats, we are so very proud of you!
Senior Taneria Wilson scored her 1,000th basketball point as a Lincoln Park Academy Greyhound. The LPA family of students, teachers, staff and coaches are very proud of her accomplishment. Congratulations Taneria!!
As part of Fairlawn Elementary’s ongoing effort to increase word recognition among our students, students and staff paraded through the school halls dressed as a host of costumed words. Families and friends laughed, applauded, and were amazed by our students’ ingenuity! From pond to precipitation, humble to boastful, students represented words from science, social studies, math, language arts and character education curriculum. The parade concept is based on Debra Frasier’s book, Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster, where a student confuses the work ‘miscellaneous” for the person, Miss Alaineus. The entire school at Floresta Elementary took part in the first monthly STEAM activity. K-2 discovered how to blow a piece of popcorn into a bottle. 3-5 designed and built a container that would hold 293 pieces of popcorn using 10 pieces to estimate by. Fun was had by all!
