Northport Welcomes Students

What a wonderful pleasure to welcome new students and to celebrate returning students and families with a flourish. Northport VPK-8 School and community welcomed back well over one thousand students on Monday, August 15. Mariposa Elementary Welcomes New Monarchs

Open House was a success! We had a great night welcoming our new and old students to Mariposa Elementary. Mr. Logue officially welcomed our new Kindergarten students and their families explaining that they are now officially Monarchs. After the orientation, the students were able to visit their classrooms and meet their teachers. There were stations set up to help parents complete their registration, find their buses, complete lunch applications, and apply to volunteer. Transportation Hotline

The District has adopted 772-204-RIDE (7433) as its main number for transportation calls.   Improvements to the telephone network and additional staff will support calls to this center as the school year opens.  The transportation call center will be open from 6am to 6pm for the first two weeks of school.

Jeffrey Johnson Honored

The School Board extended congratulations to St. Lucie Public Schools Teacher of the Year Mr. Jeffrey Johnson who is an exceptional student education teacher at Dale Cassens Educational Complex. Last week, during a meeting of Florida’s Cabinet, Governor Rick Scott recognized Mr. Johnson along with four other  Teachers of the Year from across the state with the Governor’s Shine Awards. This month’s STAR Awards were presented to Angela LaRose, Assistive Technology Assistant, FDLRS, and to Christine Jordan, Administrative Assistant, FDLRS.  Both Angie and Chris have provided stellar customer service to teachers and parents in St. Lucie County for over 10 years. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie Soars is an early literacy effort launched by St. Lucie Public Schools that includes a community initiative in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters.  A component of the program involves the recruitment of volunteers/mentors to support reading efforts in kindergarten through grade three to help close the gap in third grade literacy.  Superintendent E. Wayne Gent said, “Giving a child the gift of reading opens the door to the world.” Gent encourages community members to consider becoming a volunteer for St. Lucie Soars by donating one hour each week to read with a child. … Read More

Opening Ceremonies – Leadership Day

St. Lucie Public Schools leaders gathered on July 28 for the 2016-2017 “Opening Ceremonies” for the new academic year. Superintendent E. Wayne Gent set a positive tone for high expectations and continued trends of success. School leaders enjoyed a day filled with collegial working and learning opportunities to enhance planning for the coming year. ‪

Meal applications are available online for families to complete for the 2016-2017 school year. (This is an application that must be completed each year.) It is very important to have all of this information completed in advance of your child attending school on the first day of school (August 15, 2016).
