Grade 5 students at White City Elementary are learning about different forms of energy.  Mr. Lewis provides hands-on learning opportunities for his students as they investigate and generate a hypothesis.

At White City Elementary classes researched and created display boards highlighting key facts about their country. Students were able to compare and contrast information as they conducted research using print and digital sources to extend their learning.    

All White City Elementary parents and students were invited to book fair night.  Students enjoyed shopping, selecting popular titles, and searching for Sunshine Readers.        

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s third grade students had a special visit from Port Saint Lucie’s Mayor, Greg Oravec.  Mayor Oravec talked to the students about what government means and how the different levels interact with each other.  He supported their learning by having discussions regarding the different branches of government along with how citizens can make a difference.

Students had the opportunity to engage in the Captain Wattage performance.  Students learned about energy and electricity.  Students also learned about the uses of energy, ways energy is wasted, and how to conserve energy.  

5th graders at Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts visited the SLC Aquarium on October 14th. Students were able to learn about the habitats of the Indian River Lagoon as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Students also had the opportunity to dissect oysters! Who knew learning could be so fun?

Under the direction of Dr. Rolanda Jones, Dan McCarty Middle School students performed musical selections to open the October School Board Meeting.

At PACE Center for Girls, the Speakers Bureau’s first guest speaker of the year was Ms. Denise Sirmons, Treasure Hunter and Kids at Hope Coordinator. She captivated the students with her life story. Although she made several wrong choices as a youth, Ms. Sirmons eventually learned from her mistakes. The most important thing she learned in life was the importance  of surrounding herself with successful people, walking with integrity, and working hard.  

St. Lucie Elementary students received a special presentation from the National Theatre for Children. During the presentation, the students learned from Captain Wattage the importance of energy conservation and how they can reduce energy consumption at home. Since 1978, The National Theatre for Children has dedicated itself to teaching young students about important and timely issues. Mrs. J. Scipioni’s 5th grade students at Mariposa Elementary have been working hard in math and science. They worked in inquiry groups to figure out how to separate base ten blocks to divide 2-digit divisors. St. Lucie Public Schools Board Chair Kathryn Hensley was honored at a recent St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce Luncheon for her steadfast advocacy for children and tireless commitment to harnessing energy and making a positive difference in this community. In addition to serving as the School Board Chair, Mrs. Hensley is also actively involved in HANDS of St. Lucie County and Children’s Services Council among many other groups and organizations. Northport was so proud and thrilled to host the Speakers Bureau with Dr. Donna Mills recently. The Speakers Bureau is now in seven SLC schools and the guests who are invited to speak and interact with students are meant to help inspire, motivate, encourage and teach students how to make good choices. Mrs. Glidden’s second grade students participated in STEM activities. Students raised questions about the natural world and used nonstandard objects to build and create through free exploration. The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion showed their pride at the Homecoming parade at Village Green Elementary. Marching in this parade is a tremendous honor and privilege for the Port Saint Lucie High Jaguar Battalion. The Battalion formation was led by the Jaguar’s Color Guard and was commanded by Cadet Staff Sergeant Tessa May carrying the National Flag.
