This year, Northport K-8 School celebrates our 8th annual Unity Day. Students from across the VKP-8 school make posters and banners and march throughout a path pre-marked by our PE coaches. All day long, during resource time, students can be seen marching, carrying homemade decorations and singing choruses of “No More Bullies! This past weekend, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Honor Guard helped in assisting staff at the Children’s Emporium. The Honor Guard helped staff with supervising children, setting up games and activities, as well as, cleaning up after the event.

On Thursday, October 26, the Jaguar cadets took a trip to Florida Institute of Technology (FIT) to expand their knowledge of senior ROTC and the college admission process. With a few guest speakers from the admissions office, ROTC and a US Army Officer; the Jaguar cadets have learned valuable information about how their future should go.

Educators coming together to help educators is the underlying theme of this year’s annual West Gate K8 Hispanic Heritage Festival and Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, November 18th on the school’s campus located at 1050 NW Cashmere Blvd. in Port Saint Lucie.  Community members are invited to enjoy music, games, live performances, and a variety of food from 1PM to 5PM. Students in Mrs. Auciello’s first grade class at Mariposa Elementary used Play-Doh and toothpicks to create a 3-dimensional cube! The students figured out that they needed 6 Play-Doh vertices and 12 toothpick edges. Pictured are Andrew Newhouse, Jaxson Plantier, Malia Johnson, Jaistyn Thurston, and Madelyn Farrell. Ft. Pierce Elks Lodge #1520 has a heart for caring and sharing, especially when it comes to the youngest members in this community.  The organization’s Pantry and Backpack Program has made a positive difference in the lives of many SLPS children. On hand at a recent event were members of Chester A. On Wednesday, October 18th at Port St. Lucie High, the Senior Class of 2018 came together to commemorate their last year as seniors in a senior pinning ceremony. At this year’s ceremony, the graduating class broke the record for having the auditorium brimming with students and supportive parents. St. Lucie County’s Sheriff was the honored guest speaker for this event, and the Jaguar Color guard presented the colors for the Senior Class of 2018.

Northport always commemorates the tragedy of 9/11. Each year, we invite local veterans, first responders, police officers and guest speakers to bring the tragedy of September 11 alive for sixth grade students in a meaningful way. This year, due to Hurricane Irma, our program needed to be rescheduled a month and a half later. However, its importance was not diminished. Mrs. Glidden’s first grade class tests the order of their addends in their addition sentences to find out if it changes the sum. The students quickly found out that it did not and engaged in a game of “find your flip flop fact friend” to match their addition sentence with someone else who had their same addends ordered differently.
