September 9th the volunteers at Weatherbee Elementary were given a breakfast and orientation for new prospects. Last year our volunteers donated over 7,000 hours of their time to our classrooms. We look forward to seeing more of them in this coming school year and appreciate all they do for our children. Featured here are Elizabeth Thomas, PTO President, and Donna Pancoast.
In recognition of the many contributions our families make to children, Weatherbee Elementary opened its doors to welcome grandparents, family members, and friends for our Kids at Hope Celebration on September 10th and 11th. Weatherbee Elementary School celebrated National Kids at Hope Day during student led conferences. Each student took a letter and sat with their parent(s) or other caring adult and wrote down why they are a Kid at Hope. The letters were then posted outside of the individual teacher’s room spelling out “Kids at Hope, No Exceptions!” Teachers came out and took a picture with their classes, which were put together in one large poster to display on campus.

Ms. Alyssa Barbieri furnished her 5th grade math students with a diner menu and $20. They practiced adding and subtracting to the hundredths place by selecting three items within their $20 budget – calculating both the cost of the items and the change they would receive back. Whether they chose the most expensive items or elected to spend the least amount possible, they had lots of fun while practicing their math skills!

Teachers facilitated by conducting writing conferences and by providing feedback throughout the writing process. Check out these fifth-grade students from Mrs. Aaron’s class. Our students are proud of their work. GO LEOPARDS!
