This year, as part of our Northport School Improvement Plan, one of our important goals is to raise attendance rates. We are determined to get our students into school so that our achievement levels will rise. We celebrated with a popcorn and movie party today with parties for grades 3 through 8 for all students who earned Perfect Attendance for the first quarter. Mariposa Elementary’s Fifth Grader, Brandon Roth, took action to help another during difficult times, and he was recognized for his actions by the St. Lucie County Fire District with a Citizen Hero Award. Brandon Roth was riding his hoverboard to a friend’s home in Port St. Lucie to play when he noticed a woman was on the ground lying unconscious by her front door.  He investigated and saw that she was in real trouble.  He flagged down a passing car and told them what he saw and asked them to call 911.  They did and Brandon waited by the woman until … Read More

Northport’s 8th grade culinary students visited the advanced culinary classes at Fort Pierce Central High School. Central’s Chef Jesse Strell, in coordination with Ms. Rachel Savela, brought their students together to mentor and learn together. Northport students learned how to make a roux and many knife skills including the Rondelle cut.

WCE Dads enjoyed breakfast with their students.  WCE Dads signed a pledge to support the staff, students, and the overall school community by staying involved and ensuring that education remains a top priority.

Samuel S. Gaines Academy of Emerging Technologies (SGAET) received a facelift in the cafeteria.  Students and staff were excited to see the fresh new design that coincides with the school’s STEM focus.    

Every day is a wonderful day @ Northport. Third graders dressed up as idioms…like, “it’s raining cats and dogs,” “butterflies in my stomach,” and “two heads are better than one.” The students and teachers were filled with ? JOY ❤ The teachers were all SMARTIE PANTS!!!!!!

Parents, grandparents and families are celebrating Principal’s Honor Roll, A and B Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance. We are pleased as punch to reward these accomplishments. Along with hundreds of schools across the state of Florida, Northport is recognizing parents, grandparents and families who come to the school to support our children. November is heralded as Florida Family Engagement in Education Month, and Northport is engaging families at every turn. Mariposa Elementary celebrated Storybook Character Day. It was a huge success and culminated with a character parade featuring Prekindergarten, Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third grades. Many of our teachers and staff participated as superheroes including our very own Principal R. Craig Logue and Assistant Principal Angela Patton. Pictured Above: R. Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion hosted a Raider competition at Port St. Lucie High School. Volunteer cadets for each company assisted in running the competition’s five events.  The cadets performed tasks such as running scores back to H22 (the JROTC classroom), working the concession stand, and making sure tents posted around the school had water for anyone who needed it. There were 11 schools from  four different counties with over 25 separate teams competing in three separate categories (Male, Female, and Mixed). Treasure Coast High School Criminal Justice students participated in Florida Public Service Association (FPSA) training on the teacher development day (10-26-18). The students practiced the following techniques: handcuffing, building searches, cover vs. concealment, interpersonal skills, weapon retention, and radio communications. The students performed exceptionally well.  The FPSA state competition takes place in March 2019 in Orlando Florida.  

St. Lucie West Centennial Culinary 2 students put up an awesome Halloween buffet. Culinary 2 students in Chef Gedke-Balachak’s classes worked together to whip up this ghoulish celebration! Way to go, Eagles!      

Port St. Lucie High students explored Florida Polytechnic University’s STEM Integration labs.  Hosted by Dr. Ryan Integlia, John Picchiarini and Chris Medley’s students participated in demonstrations with wearable electronics, Arts and STEM integration, optoelectronics, supervised machine learning, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy just to name some of experiences! The visit is the first step in this year’s collaboration project between Port St. Lucie High Technical Design students and Florida Polytechnic University students. Look for more to come!
