The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) is proud to celebrate January as National Mentoring Month. This nationwide initiative is in its 18th year and is a means of celebrating and promoting the value of mentoring to the students of Florida. For the second year, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) boasts a graduation rate above 90 percent with 1.7 percent growth this year landing the District at 91.8 percent – well above the State average. Over 600 St. Lucie Public Schools students received food, clothing, and supplies from generous members of the Elks Lodge #1520 in Fort Pierce. The December 12th delivery schedule started out promising to serve 3 schools, but as donations poured in, the number of schools quickly grew to 13. This growth mirrors the growth in the number of students who benefit from the Elks Backpack Program which supports students throughout the year.    

St. Lucie Public Schools staff visit with the parents of English Learners who attend the English Learning Center at Weatherbee Elementary. The District hosts four different locations through the Title III Program. Parents shared traditional holiday food. They were also serenaded by one of our parents. Norma Miller is the dedicated site manager for this center .
