The SLW Centennial High School’s NAVY JROTC was honored to provide the Color Guard detail for the St. Lucie School District’s Education Foundation “Night of the Stars” gala event on Saturday, February 9, 2019.  The detail was manned by Nicholas Gunnel (left rifleman), Ian Martens (Unit flagman), Julian Ortiz (Ensign flagman) and Bryson Laurent (right rifleman).

Southport Middle School Celebrates Literacy Week 2019

Southport Middle School students had a great time celebrating Literacy Week 2019. This year’s theme from the Florida Department of Education was “Spreading Literacy, One View at a Time.” The week began with a door decorating contest and homerooms were given the entire week to complete their project. Students started the celebration on Tuesday dressed as their favorite book character and ended the day with their families at a Literacy Evening of fun, games, food, and books from the Scholastic Book Fair held in the Media Center. SLW Centennial Navy JROTC Mentoring Students

The SLW Centennial Navy JROTC, in cooperation with the West Gate Boys and Girls Club, has begun a mentoring program.  The partnership hopes to instill great citizenship values of patriotism, self-sacrifice, self-discipline and attention to detail in our grade school youth.

Military Ball

On Saturday February 2nd, 2019, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion attended its 25th Annual Military Ball at the Santa Lucia River Club. Male Cadets wore their Dress Cadet Formal uniform, and female cadets came in formal gowns. Our Jaguar Battalion Color Guard posted the colors to begin the formal portion of the ceremony. Commanding the color guard was Cadet Sergeant First Class Lawrence Moleon-Matthews, accompanied by Cadet Sergeant Shane Canady as State Flag Bearer, Cadet Sergeant James Mikovsky as National Guard, and Cadet Corporal Alex Nangle as State Guard. SLW Centennial HS NAVY JROTC Has Annual Military Inspection (AMI)

On Thursday, January 31, 2019, the SLW Centennial HS NAVY JROTC had its Annual Military Inspection (AMI).  The Inspecting officer was Commander Patrick Thurman, USN (retired).  CDR Thurman is the Area 7 Manager of the NJROTC program and oversees the NJROTC program for the entire state of Florida and over 60 NJRTOC units.  CDR Thurman was truly impressed with the professionalism and military bearing that the Black Talon Cadets possessed.  The inspection verifies that all NJROTC requirements are being met to include academics, marching and drill, physical fitness and personnel inspection. Palm Pointe Jazz Bands Achieve Superior Rating at District 13 Jazz Band Festival

On Thursday, January 31st, the Jazz Bands from Palm Pointe participated in the Florida Bandmasters District 13 Jazz Band Performance Music Assessment at St. Lucie West Centennial High School where they were evaluated by a panel of three state certified Jazz Adjudicators. We are proud to announce that both bands achieved straight superior ratings, which is the highest possible rating. Congratulations to the Palm Pointe students and staff on this awesome achievement.

Mariposa Elementary’s VPK Explores Patterns

At Mariposa Elementary,  Mrs. Bonilla’s VPK is working on learning about patterns. They have already learned about AB patterns and now they have moved to working on ABB patterns. Arianna Lopez, Charles Sloan, Hunter Schultz, Annahisha Charles, and Cristian Gomez were provided with visuals and hands on examples. Then they were given counting squares so that they could work on making an ABB pattern individually.

Celebrating Dr. Seuss

Northport and Big Brothers Big Sisters invites parents, police officers, firefighters, veterans along with our school and business community to hop on our schedule and come on over to NP to read some Dr. Seuss books to kids in our VPK through third grade classrooms. It’s going to be a great time. Our Title I school needs YOU! It’s a BIG BIRTHDAY PARTY!

Lincoln Park Academy Peace Poster Show

The Hurston Branch Library will display the artwork of Lincoln Park Academy students grades 6th– 8th from January 15th – February 15th.  The Zora Neale Hurston Branch Library is located at 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce, Florida, just west of 29th Street. The student artwork represents individual expressions of peace and justifies why kindness matters in a global sense.  For over three decades, Lions Clubs around the globe have sponsored this “peace” themed art contest for schools and youth groups. Fort Pierce Westwood High School and St. Lucie West Centennial High School Criminal Justice students attended the District Court of Appeals Oral Arguments hosted by Indian River State College.  This event afforded the students the opportunity to hear cases and participate in a question and answer segment with the judges.

Mrs. Sharrah’s 1st graders enjoyed the last day of Literacy Week reading with flashlights and lollipops ? ? Northport celebrated the joys of literacy all week with many different activities including book chains, storybook snowmen, and buddy reading activities. The love of reading is alive and well at Northport!
