Fifth graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School were thrilled to learn about and enjoy eating food grown from their very own vegetable gardens! Students at the school grew “yummy” cabbages and “delicious” sweet potatoes.

Morningside Elementary was selected as the Florida Elementary School of the Year and National Elementary Finalist for the NEED project. The students pictured (Ben Prohaska, Paul Mukhamedov, Wyatt Taylor, Luke Prohaska, Sincere Robinson, Logan McDonald, Tyler McDonald, and Ryan Ayvaz, along with advisor/5th grade teacher, Mollie Mukhamedov) will represent Morningside Elementary at the 2019 NEED Youth Conference in Washington, D.C. this June. Faculty, staff, students and invited guests were witnesses to an event dubbed the CO2 Races at Port St. Lucie High School. Students in Mr. John Picchiarini’s class designed the cars using AutoCAD 2018. The designs were then 3D printed on site. Two by two, the cars were lined up at the starting line and powered along fishing lines by CO2 cartridges.

With special thanks to Friends of the Rupert J. Smith Law Library, Inc., students had the opportunity to participate in the 2019 Law Day Art Contest and Law Day Reception. Fort Pierce Central High School JROTC cadets participated in the Wreaths Across America fundraising effort in the fall and raised over $1,100. The dollars raised were donated to St. Lucie County’s local veterans organizations in an effort to honor the men and women who dedicated themselves to serving and protecting our country in the armed services. St. Lucie Public Schools will participate in the Summer Food Service Program during the months of June and July. Nutritionally balanced meals will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, sex, disability, age or national origin during summer vacation when school breakfasts and lunches are not available. At open sites, all children, 18 years old and younger, are eligible for meals at no charge, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Ajah English, 12th grader at Lincoln Park Academy, is the recipient of the ” State of the Jobs” Scholarship in the amount of $800. She is the only recipient from the district. The scholarship was presented by Leslie Haviland, Director of Student Services, Keiser University; Brian Bauer, Career Source; Pete Tesch, St. Lucie Economic Development Council of St. Lucie County; and Tonya Woodworth, Career Source. Village Green Environmental Studies School hosted the Environmental Science Expo last weekend to highlight the school’s permaculture garden, square foot gardens, astronomy binoculars, solar lab and microscope center. Fifth grade students took responsibility to orient guests about the variety of plants grown, their origins, and their uses.
We are truly blessed at Northport. Pastor Brian, Deacon Rad, and others from our First United Methodist Church of Port St. Lucie community partners gave a day of service to our school. We are beautiful and wondrously freshly painted and cleaned. ❤ Northport appreciates all who supported the effort!
Mrs. Lawrence’s first grade class proudly brought their completed Young Author books to the media center. Great job for innovative and exciting work and teaching the joy of writing!❤ Young Authors is a school-wide program at Northport. Common language and joyful writing brings the community together to help children release their inner writer.
Many thanks to the St. Lucie County Public Library for visiting Northport second graders. Jayme Kostandinu, children’s program specialist, and Brittany Ellis, program associate, brought news about the public library’s summer reading program themed “A Universe of Stories!” Students received applications for public library cards and listened to interactive stories to spur their reading initiative. The program runs from June 1 through August 3. Parents, take your children to the public library and check out their many programs and books.
Creative Arts Academy of St. Lucie proudly showcased their talented students during the debut of Arts Week. Fine arts teachers collaborated to create and put on nightly performances. “Scenes and Sounds,” was the premiere of this year’s inaugural annual student film festival presented by The Media Arts Department which included transcendent music from The CAST Band. The Dance Department dazzled the stage with a showcase of various dance styles and techniques. Friends, families, businesses, and organizations came together on Saturday, April 27th for a day of fun, food, festivities, and demonstrations at the 5th Annual Safety Fest held at the Digital Domain Stadium in Port St. Lucie. The Ft. Pierce Central High School JROTC Color Guard and St. Lucie West Centennial High School Band opened the event by presenting the Colors and playing the National Anthem. St. Lucie Public Schools was represented by Transportation, FDLRS, Media Services, Magnet School Programs, and General Programs of Study.
The Key Club is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through service to others and is supported and mentored under the umbrella of the Kiwanis International family. Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities. New members of the Key Club were recently inducted for the coming school year.
