A Welcoming Wave Kicks Off “NFL” at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and academic success were the focus of this virtual Night of Freshmen Learning (NFL) for all 9th grade Westwood Panthers and their families.  Christina Coppola, a district SEL Specialist,  psyched up the audience with a fun welcoming ritual to create a sense of community for the evening.  The district SEL Parent Educator, Blondeen Newman, discussed her role and offered resources of everyday tips to being a successful high school student. OAK HAMMOCK K-8 ELEMENTARY ESE STUDENTS EXPLORE PUMPKIN LIFE CYCLE

Ms. Quinn’s K-5 ESE class is learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin. The students conducted an experiment to see what conditions would be the best for growing pumpkin seeds. They created three environments for testing: a plastic bag, a cup and a pumpkin. The students were excited to see the results of their experiments with sprouts growing.    

OAK HAMMOCK K-8 is NO-PLACE FOR HATE

Students, Teachers and Staff at Oak Hammock K-8 stands United as One during Bullying Prevention Month. Students demonstrated on campus they were Rising Above Bullying by working together in Grades 5-8 to create, throughout the school, “No Place for Hate” murals using feathers. Students, teachers and staff wore orange on Unity Day to show they were United as One. The 3rd Grade team displayed unity by reminding everyone, “You can sit with me #NOBULLYING”          

TCHS Cadets Support Area Veterans and “Honor Flight”

On Saturday, October 17th the Treasure  Coast HS AFJROTC participated in a huge ceremony honoring our veterans along with the Honor Flight organization.  Cadets presented our nations colors to kick off the ceremony and then accomplished a flag folding ceremony for the veterans.  Congressman Brian Mast made remarks to the veterans as well, and “challenge coins” were presented to all veterans in attendance.  Veterans were thrilled with the ceremony honoring their service and appreciated the cadet’s efforts to recognize them.  

Village Green Gets ‘Energized’ with Kilowatt Kitchen

Village Green students in PreK-fifth grade watched an energy efficiency program, Kilowatt Kitchen Livestream Special, by the National Theatre for Children. Students watched entertaining sketches featuring a variety of characters discussing electricity and energy conservation. This was followed by an interactive Q&A as well as an exciting shout out to our school!   

Joule Jeeps at CAST

CAST fifth grade students in Ms. Broderick’s and Mrs. Wyatt’s classes built simple machine cars, powered using renewable energy, to demonstrate how energy can be transformed from one form to another. These students used Joule Jeep kits from our LEGO Makerspace to create vehicles powered by mechanical energy from their hand generators which was transformed into electrical energy to propel their Joule Jeeps forward.  

MSE Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

First grade students in Mrs. McKenna’s class celebrated Hispanic Heritage month with research projects and some very special presentations.  Students presented their findings through posters, books, powerpoints, artwork and performances.

Nicholas Demko from Lincoln Park Academy Named as Semifinalist for National Merit Scholarship

Nicholas Demko has qualified as a Semifinalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.  As one of approximately 16,000 high school seniors who are Semifinalists, he has the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. At St. Lucie West K-8 School, our MySchool Shark Chefs in Ms. Tremblay’s Middle School Fundamentals of Culinary Career class began their Food and Nutrition Unit and learned five different ways to prepare eggs as well as the history and variations of pizza! SLWK8 Shark Family Helps One of Their Own

One of St. Lucie West K-8 School’s First graders and her family tragically endured a house fire a few weeks ago and lost everything. SLWK8 Sharks Student Council and Kindness Club organized a “No Collar for a Dollar” fundraiser on October 14th for all students, staff and teachers. In the true spirit of Shark Nation fashion, the school raised over $1000.00 for the family! Principal Gardner, Assistant Principal (Elementary) Luvenia Morgan, Student Council President, Amy McDonald and SLWK8’s Kindness Club Sponsor, Jaime Mazzo presented the check to Mom. WAY TO GO SHARK NATION!  

Port St Lucie High School’s Skilled Trades Advisory Board Meeting Goes Virtual

Port St Lucie High School’s Skilled Trades Advisory Board Meetings are now being held virtually. Teachers, school administrators, guidance counselors, district support personnel, and representatives from the Treasure Coast Builders Association met via Microsoft Teams on October 19, 2020 to continue the important collaboration between the St Lucie County School District and industry. The goal remains to ensure our Career and Technical Education students are college and career ready upon graduation.

Elementary Drama Kings and Queens at CAST

Ms. Lynch’s elementary drama students were excited to deliver their first monologues to their classmates using their knowledge of projection, characterization, and movement. They did an excellent job practicing their acting skills, as well as proper audience etiquette. CAST drama students online and in-person also put their stage design abilities to the test by designing a set using a shoe box and modeling clay. Our CAST Performers are well-prepared not only for the stage, but also for the backstage aspects of theatre!

Glow Day at Morningside Elementary

Students and staff at Morningside Elementary dressed in “glow” from head to toe and participated in a variety of activities on Glow Day in order to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters through the Bowl for Kid’s Sake Fundraiser.  Students raised over$700.    

St. Lucie Elementay 5th Graders Enjoy Digital Learning

St. Lucie Elementary students in Joseph Richardson’s 5th grade class used Nearpod to discover how to find the volume of an object. Mr. Richardson was using Nearpod to launch the newest unit in math. The students had to draw a fish tank, label the dimensions, and then find the volume of their tanks. They were then tasked with finding the volume of different rectangular prisms using the quiz mode in Nearpod. Students had a blast and can’t wait for the next Nearpod lesson!
