Recently retired United States Army paratrooper Kenneth Frech came to visit students in Sandy Pagliughi’s fourth grade class during a Social Studies lesson Saluting Heroes, September 11, 2012 at Floresta Elementary School. Students were shown a PowerPoint presentation that included pictures from Operations Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Afghanistan and Iraq. There was also time for a question and answer period following the presentation. One students asked Mr. Frech if he was injured during his service. This year’s Restoring the Village events made a tremendous positive impact on participants and recipients alike as the grassroots effort to work together for the purpose of making the world a better place is influencing the Lincoln Park Community and beyond.  Congratulations to Renee Adderly-Clark who was honored with a Village Keepers Award at the Restoring the Village Banquet.SLPS students appreciated the Youth Symposium, and hundreds of community members poured out to support Community Clean-up Day.

Sweet Elementary captured all three aspects perfectly with remembering  Dr. King’s speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial, while children celebrate by joining hands and uniting in order to take action.
