Recently retired United States Army paratrooper Kenneth Frech came to visit students in Sandy Pagliughi’s fourth grade class during a Social Studies lesson Saluting Heroes, September 11, 2012 at Floresta Elementary School. Students were shown a PowerPoint presentation that included pictures from Operations Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Afghanistan and Iraq. This year’s Restoring the Village events made a tremendous positive impact on participants and recipients alike as the grassroots effort to work together for the purpose of making the world a better place is influencing the Lincoln Park Community and beyond.  Congratulations to Renee Adderly-Clark who was honored with a Village Keepers Award at the Restoring the Village Banquet.SLPS students appreciated the Youth Symposium, and hundreds of community members poured out to support Community Clean-up Day.

Research Study at Palm Pointe

Under the direction of Dr. Brett Lauren, PhD Director of Graduate Training Professor of Psychology at FAU, Grade 3 through 5 students  at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition will be participating in a research study entitled ” School Experiences in Childhood and Adolescence.” The purpose of this project is to examine how individual characteristics of friends shape child adjustment and school achievement.

Last week, St. Lucie Public Schools held a Facebook Live Event to share information with the public about the reopening of schools.  Representative Delores Hogan Johnson, School Board Member Kathryn Hensley and Superintendent E. Renowned Storyteller at Gaines Academy

The month of February is dedicated to celebrating and honoring the many achievements and contributions made by African Americans to the economic, cultural, and political development of America. On February 19th, Donna Washington joined Gaines Academy in celebrating African American culture through the art of storytelling. Ms. Washington is a renowned story teller and author who had student and teachers of all ages captivated with her narratives. Thank you, Ms. Washington! Parade theme reflected in F. K. Sweet parade entry

Remember, Celebrate, and Take Action was the theme of the recent Martin Luther King parade. Second place winner in the elementary division from F.K. Sweet Elementary captured all three aspects perfectly with remembering  Dr. King’s speech in front of the Lincoln Memorial, while children celebrate by joining hands and uniting in order to take action. Pictured, art teacher Carey Schott and her committee worked tirelessly to create this year’s beautiful float.

Regional Winners – Fresh From Florida

Congratulations to SHELDON RILEY and JAMES WEICHMANN from Fort Pierce Westwood High School! They are the winners of the Fresh from Florida Student Chef Cook-off regional competition. Sheldon and James prepared a Raw Kale Pasta Salad with a Strawberry Vinaigrette and Chipotle Chicken. Sheldon and James will move to the next level of competition for the State Title in Tallahassee.

Daily Five reading time gives students choices

Robbie Baumgarten, a second grade student in Rachel Lutha’s class at F.K. Sweet Elementary is using a part of his Daily Five Reading time to reflect and write about what he has just read. Students are afforded choices within the literacy routine on a daily basis.
