On the 26th and 27th of October 2022, the JROTC Jaguar Battalion held their monthly Cadet Promotion Board. During this, selected cadets throughout all companies are asked a series of questions that test their general knowledge on what they have learned in JROTC, their ability to recite our Cadet Creed, the ability to wear the proper uniform, and conducting certain drill movements. R-E-A-D is Spelled by FPC T-E-A-Ms On October 28th, FPC athletes from cheer and football traveled to Allapattah Flats K-8 to read with students. Ariah Hill, Aniah Augustin, Kaylana Edgecombe, Rylan Watkins, Greg Jerger, Colson Elisme, Gerald Thompson, Isaiah Beaubrun, Jamari Tullis, Jamarion Davis, Casey Highlands, Eddie Maddox, and Malankov Daceus.

Girls on the Run is so much FUN! The Oak Hammock GOTR participants are working together to develop a positive self-image, make healthy choices, enhance leadership skills and make continued growth toward effective teamwork. Some of our girls are returning participants and have made exponential growth and serve as role models to new participants. The girls are excited to complete their 5K run in December. Our Ospreys are continuing to build success together with positive connections.

The Lincoln Park Academy Middle School Student Council demonstrates leadership by modeling inclusion and empathy, as they advocate anti-bullying and supporting breast cancer awareness this semester.

SLW Centennial High School NJROTC celebrated their Annual Military Review and Inspection on November 3rd, 2022. Several students were recognized and given awards for outstanding personal appearance for their uniform inspections. Congratulations to all Cadets and Units on a job well done!  

Fort Pierce Central bowling teams competed at the State Bowling Tournament in Orlando. Team members brought home the first District title in school history. Boys finished 9th as a team. Charlie Passanante finished 12th in singles. Charlie Passanante rolled a perfect game 300 in the regular season against Somerset Academy who finished 2nd in Districts. Girls: Allison Kepfer and Madison Phillips have a 3-11 record. Boys: Charlie Passanante, Daniel Heidebrecht, Christian White, Nathan Mondo, William Auriemma, Jackson Willette, Nathan Gould, Adriel Alvarez have a 13-1 record for the regular season.

St. Lucie Public School’s VPK classrooms send a huge thank you to PNC Bank and The Education Foundation of St. Lucie County for sponsoring Read for the Record 2022. Each student received a book to take home and loved our guest readers.  

The Lincoln Park Academy Physical Education Department sponsored a Breast Cancer Awareness walk on Friday, October 28, 2022.  Donned in pink, the students and staff walked 523,704 steps to honor survivors and those battling the horrible disease.  The Greyhounds wrote messages of hope and honor for all friends and family fighting this fight.  A special thank you to Mr. Jason Barela from the St. Lucie Health Department for supporting our walk and donating swag bags for students who walked the most steps and wore the most creative pink outfits.    

Fort Pierce Central High School’s Embry-Riddle program took off to the Treasure Coast International Airport on October 25th. Four sections of classes, in total of 21 students, were hosted by Turbine Works, a company specializing in complex aircraft maintenance and aerodynamic modifications. The experience was enhanced by students getting an invitation from the owners of two adjacent businesses that remodel interiors and provide avionic services. After devouring all the snacks and drinks graciously provided by Turbine Works, students also had a chance to climb into one of the aircraft. The trip was a total success with excellent feedback. The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion attended the Area 3 Regional State Qualifying Raider Meet at Camp Tanah Keeta. The event was hosted by Jupiter High School, on October 29, for the right to represent Area 3 in the State Meet. The raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 2.2-mile team run, 1-mile litter carry, 35-pound kettlebell carry, tire flip, and constructing and crossing a rope bridge. On Monday the 31st of October, the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion conducted a Color Guard for the Professional Golfers Association at their golf course in Port St. Lucie. Our cadets opened the ceremony with the national anthem sung by Dave Bray. The event was a fundraiser from Caddies for the Cure and organized with local wounded Veterans. SLW Centennial High School Culinary Arts Academy was adopted by Kyle G’s restaurant group through the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association.  With this “adopt-a-class” program, local restaurateurs and restaurants are able to involve students in real-world field trips, internships, guest speaking, and more.  On Friday, October 28th, the students took a trip to see the workings of both front of the house and back of the house at Kyle G’s Oyster Bar in Saint Lucie West, Florida.  The students had a great time working their way through the restaurant and watching live demos in their open kitchen.

Port St. Lucie High School’s Allied Health and Nursing Assistant Program Coordinator, Jacklyn Cebelak, attended the National Consortium for Health Science Education conference.  Jacklyn’s visit included workshops and an abundance of information to be shared with our CTE Educators and Staff during an upcoming professional development session.

Westwood Academy STEAM Advocates, Mr. Wilks & Mr. McIntosh, presented at the FAST conference on STEAM! They focused on the addition of the arts into STEM. Their session was lively, engaging, and purposeful for all attendants. We are so proud of you!

Mrs. Santo’s third-grade students enjoyed the book Chocolate Fever written by Robert Kimmel Smith. Her students enjoyed the daily read-aloud, which allows students to enhance their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and listening skills. GO LAWNWOOD!

On Saturday, October 29, the Westwood Army JROTC Raider Team competed in the Area 3 Regional Championship Meet at the Tanah Keeta Scout Reservation in Jupiter, FL. The Team competed against 8 other schools in 5 separate events: (2-Mile Team Run, 1-Mile Cross-Country Casualty Evacuation Run, Rope Bridge (build & crossing), 440lb Tire Flip, and 35lb Kettlebell Relays). Our Raider Team placed 3rd overall out of 9 schools, with multiple top 3 finishes and a combined 14 seconds (over three other events) separating them for the next spot up from 3rd or 4th. During the fall season, Weatherbee Elementary girls have learned a wide range of skills through the empowering Girls on the Run program. Students have learned to become contributing members of a team, make good choices in their own personal lives, become leaders, and much more. Way to go Mariners!

Westwood’s Reading Department collaborated on the Quarterly STEAM lesson on Invasive Species.  The classes began with a Nearpod and videos that explained which animals are not native to Florida.  Students also answered riddles about the animals.  To demonstrate the impact on our native species, each of the 6 classes was designated a specific “invading” animal and, following a script, took turns “invading” the hallway where the native animals were gathered.  Invaders included feral pigs, red headed agamas, iguanas, monk parakeets, pythons, and Cuban tree frogs.  The script followed the timeline of when the animals first came to our state.  After … Read More
