Scaled Spaghetti Structures at CAST

Ms. Claudio’s seventh graders at CAST examined different styles of architecture and discussed the pros and cons and how math is used in architecture. Students then designed and built their own structure to scale using spaghetti noodles, marshmallows and tape. Their goal was to build the tallest structure that best resembled their scale drawing.

Save the Water Contest Winners Announced

Below are the winners of the 2018 Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest. Students demonstrated amazing talent and challenged the judges to select from a wide array of creative entries.   Each student was presented with a prize for being selected as a local contest winner. Five of the student entries (noted with an asterisk) have been submitted to the state competition.  Locally, student winners are recognized in each participating grade, but the state recognizes winners in the following divisions: kindergarten/1st grade; 2nd/3rd grade; 4th/5th grade; middle school; high school. Save The Chimps Visits Gaines Academy

Save The Chimps is a chimpanzee sanctuary located in Fort Pierce, Florida. At Save the Chimps there was need for enrichment activities to keep the chimps stimulated. In Ms. Schutt’s 21st CLCC class students piloted the Save The Chimps to learn about the chimpanzees. “Save the Chimps” project was offered to 3rd and 4th grade students at Samuel Gaines Academy in order to improve math, reading, writing and science skills. The after school program consists of project based learning incorporating academics and extracurricular/ personal enrichment activities. Students created chimpanatas as enrichment activities to help the chimps celebrate “Chimpo De Mayo.”

Many thanks to science teacher Ms. Donovan for arranging and scheduling the entertaining FPL program for Weatherbee’s second and third graders. Students had a great time learning ways to conserve energy!

Savannas Preserve staff recognized at school board meeting

Staff from the Savannas Preserve State Park was recognized at the August 28, 2012, St. Lucie County School Board meeting for their support of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education programs at Port St. Lucie High School during the 2011-12 school year. The personnel at the Savannas Preserve hosted field trips and provided community service opportunities for students. Savannah College of Art & Design at FPC

The Savannah College of Art & Design, or SCAD is one of the most prestigious and respected art schools in the nation. The art students at Fort Pierce Central High School participated in an interactive presentation with Juan Maurico, the Assistant Director of Admissions for SCAD, on Thursday, August 21st. Mrs. Avra hosted juniors and seniors who learned about the school’s majors, new programs, housing, scholarships, and SCAD’s 99% job-placement rate. Savanna Ridge Young Author Class Winners Celebrate with Sundaes!

Savanna Ridge VPK Families Enjoyed a Day of Learning!

Students in Ms. Fuller’s VPK class enjoyed showing their family members what a day of learning is like in their classroom.  Families enjoyed center rotations with their VPK child.  Students and parents read books in the listening center, explored reading fundamentals via online programs, used manipulatives and many other engaging activities.  Thank you to our VPK families for attending our Family VPK Day!

Savanna Ridge Third Graders Learn about Plants at Heathcote Botanical Gardens!

Mrs. Marino, a third grade teacher at Savanna Ridge Elementary School, was a Target Field Trip Grant recipient for the 2015/16 school year.  Therefore, third grade students benefited by enjoying a fantastic field trip to Heathcote Botanical Gardens as they explored the life of plants. They learned about the basic structures in plants, how plants respond to stimuli, and understood how plants use the sun, air, and water to make their own food. Savanna Ridge Third Graders and Keiser University students send letters to the Military

Third grade students in Mrs. Shukri’s class enjoyed working with Keiser University students who were previously in the military.  The Keiser University students read a children’s book to the class that was created by a soldier.  It explained why military parents may seem different when they get home to their families due to PTSD.  They also explained their jobs and where they have traveled while serving in the military. Students worked with the Keiser students to make Christmas cards for the soldiers overseas for the upcoming holiday season.
