On Wednesday, October 6th, Superintendent Gent, Board Vice Chairman Dr. Donna Mills, Board Member Jack Kelly, Education Foundation Executive Director Thom Jones, Dr. Jon Prince, Dr. Kevin Perry, Latricia Woulard, and Lydia Martin made surprise visits to announce the Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year! Congratulations to Principal Felica Nixon from Lawnwood Elementary School and Assistant Principal Jaclyn Velhuis from Oak Hammock K8 who were selected to receive these distinguished awards!

Superintendent Gent, joined by School Board Chairman Debbie Hawley, Board Member Troy Ingersoll and Assistant to the Superintendent Dr. Kevin Perry, made surprise visits to two SLPS schools this morning (November 10, 2020). The first stop was at C.A. Moore Elementary where they recognized Ms. Latricia Stubbs as the 2019-2020 Assistant Principal of the Year. Ms. Stubbs is now serving as a Principal at C.A. Moore Elementary. The second stop was at Allapattah Flats K8 School where they surprised Ms. Ana Rodriguez-Oronoz as the 2019-2020 Principal of the Year for SLPS! Congratulations to the two amazing administrators!

SLPS Named ‘Best Places to Work’ for Seventh Straight Year

With over 5,000 employees, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) was recognized as one of St. Lucie County’s Best Places to Work. This is the seventh year in a row that the School District has received this honor in the “Extra Large Employer” (over 500 employees) category. SLPS Medici Project

This past weekend, the SLPS Medici Project held its first “Beginning Band A Palooza” at Ft. Pierce Central H.S.  165 beginning band students from APK8, CAST, SGAET, SOMS, SPM, WGK8, PPREK8, MAK8, SLWK8 participated in a group workshop to learn how to put their instruments together, and learn to make their first note on their instruments! High school directors and their leadership students from FPC, TCHS, PSL, and FPWA lead the workshops and helped each musician get off to a successful start.    Thank you to  Music Man, Inc. who provided “Swag” for all participants.

SLPS Launches Summer Feeding Program

Starting June 13th, SLPS is hosting a Summer Feeding Program, offering FREE food for children and teens, ages 2-18. All schools in St. Lucie County are open feeding sites for the community and students can go to any school for meals. Students that are not enrolled for summer school or camp must sign-in at the front office prior to receiving a meal. SLPS IT Earns Cybersecurity Service Technician Certificates

SLPS IT employees Antonio Vargas and Nile Gentry have both earned their certificate of completion for their apprenticeship training. The pair earned their Cybersecurity Service Technician certificates while working in one of the largest IT facilities at the St. Lucie Public Schools administration facility. SLPS is Recognized as a Florida Healthy School District

St Lucie Public Schools was presented an award by Eric Stern from Action for Healthy Kids at the school board meeting on October 28th. The District earned a Silver level on the Coordinated School Health Assessment that includes the areas of Health Services, Food Services, Physical Education, Staff Wellness, Mental Health, and Community and Family Involvement. SLPS Hosts HBCU/HSI College Fair

On January 25, 2024, SLPS held its annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) College Fair at the Fenn Center. This fair hosted representatives from the HBCU and HSI colleges who provided program, application, and scholarship information to prospective students which included SLPS current seniors and juniors. Dan McCarty Middle School also participated. This event was a wonderful opportunity for students and SLPS thanks all participating staff and universities for a great and informative event!

School safety is a concern not only for parents, teachers, administrators, but also for students that attend school.
