SLWCHS Culinary Art Students Rank Highest in St. Lucie County and 3rd Overall in the State

This weekend at the Rosen Plaza in Orlando, Florida our Culinary arts students had the opportunity to compete at the 23rd annual Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association, Educational Foundation, state high school competition. Centennial walked away with all of our students winning an award, a placement medal, and multiple scholarships to pursue their hospitality industry careers. SLWCHS Criminal Justice Students Learn About Emergency Management Systems

SLW Centennial High School Criminal Justice Students in Ms. Baumgarten’s and Ms. Oliveira’s classes had the opportunity to learn about Emergency Management Systems in St. Lucie County.  Speakers included: Frank Amandro, Assistant Director for the Public Safety Department; Billy Weinshank, Emergency Management Safety Planner; Karen Kozac, Radiological Coordinator Assistant; and Sue McNichol, Human Resource Coordinator.  Students learned about different types of emergencies and how to respond to them, emergency planning and preparedness, career opportunities in emergency management, and how criminal  justice degrees and careers fit in with emergency management.    

SLWCHS Brings Attendance Awareness to Our Eagles

Attendance is a priority for SLW Centennial and to kick off September’s Attendance Awareness Month, we involved our students every day during the first week of September!  On Tuesday we had our Aerospace teacher serve as the DJ during lunches.  Wednesday consisted of students reciting and signing their attendance pledge for the year.  Emails were sent to all students the previous weekend and students who checked their email and responded with our attendance motto of “Be Present, Be Powerful!” were able to spin the Attendance Wheel on Thursday for prizes!

SLWCHS Boys’ Soccer Coach named TCPalm’s Coach of the Year

Centennial is very proud of our Head Boys’ Soccer Coach and PE teacher, Doug Black, for being named TCPalm’s Coach of the Year! TCPalm shared, “Faced with tragedy at the beginning of the season and hit with the impending loss of a loved one toward the end, Black navigated the Eagles through severe adversity en route to their third district title in four years. SLWCHS Attendance Pop Up Incentives

Centennial recognizes our parents and students for ensuring they get to school on time!  On random Fridays, administration and staff greet our parents in the drop-off line, or students in the parking lot to welcome them to school and thank them for getting here on time!  A smile and a snack go a long way to say, “We are glad you’re here!”

SLWCHS: Around the World in 100 Minutes!

Just before Spring Break, Centennial’s Eagle Culture Committee (PBIS) celebrated diversity and our students that have excellent attendance and behavior with our very first “Around the World in 100 Minutes!” The event consisted of music, games, activities, food trucks, and booths from countries around the world.  Eligible students had an amazing time celebrating their heritage and learning more about the heritage of their fellow students and teachers!

SLWCHS AICE Students: Field Trip to the Indian River Lagoon

St. Lucie West Centennial High School students in the Cambridge AICE A-level Marine Science participated in “A Day in the Life of the Indian River Lagoon”. This was an experiential research program where students and environmental experts collaborated in the collection of water quality data and biological inventories along our local estuary.  Students actively engaged in hands-on field techniques to measure chemical, physical, and biological parameters to determine how their local piece of the estuary fits into the larger ecosystem. SLWC Criminal Justice Students Visit SLC Courthouse

On January 30th, SLWC Criminal Justice students had the unique opportunity to visit the SLC Courthouse in Fort Pierce. This educational field trip provided students with a firsthand look at the workings of the judicial system. During their visit, they engaged in an insightful Q&A session with Clerk & Comptroller Michelle Miller, Judge Jeff Hendriks, and various law enforcement staff. The students asked thoughtful questions and gained valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities of these key figures in the legal system. The St. Lucie West Centennial High School wrestling team, led by Head Coach Troy Surloff, and the girls’ wrestling team, coached by Jacob Pryor, took on tough competition at the District tournament—emerging with multiple standout performances and several athletes advancing to Regionals. Their grit, skill, and determination made the Eagles proud! SLW Centennial’s Unified team is made up of 5 amazing athletes: Jason Chi Ho Zhang, Ryle Sacchi, Emmanuel Dolcine, Lesly Aparicio, and Brandie Gibbs. Each of these athletes gave it their all on October 13th and made their way to States. Congratulations to our Centennial Unified Bowling team for their advancement to States Bowlings on November 4th.

  The SLW Centennial High School’s Navy JROTC “Black Talon” Company’s Academic Team Traveled to Cooper City, Florida, on Saturday, October 14th, 2023 to participate in the Cooper City Brain Brawl hosted by the Cooper City High School’s NJROTC. The Academic Team competed with two Teams, Team Alpha and Team Bravo, against 15 others teams from all over the State of Florida.
