Village Green Elementary Honors MLK Jr.

Mrs. Ankiel’s Kindergartners recently learned about the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The students learned about his powerful speeches and civil rights work. Mrs. Ankiel uses the teachings of MLK Jr to help her students learn to solve problems nonviolently and promote love and comradery in her classroom. The students read books, drew and colored a portrait, and participated in classroom activities to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

St. Lucie West K8 Celebrates the 100th Day of School!

SLWK8 students celebrated the 100th Day of School by showing their spirit. Students in Ms. Walker’s second through fourth-grade class celebrated the 100th Day of School by showing they are 100 Days Sharper! First-grade students turned into Dalmatians, 101 to be exact!

Young Scientists Learn Research Skills at Morningside

Morningside Elementary students in Mrs. Eibl’s second-grade class refined their research skills when they spent time during their enrichment MTSS block researching an animal that lives in Antarctica or the region. After becoming the class expert on their habitats and animals, they integrated technology by creating a PowerPoint presentation and then building a replica of their habitat before sharing their skills and knowledge with classmates.

Criminal Justice Collaboration with Clerk of the Circuit Courts & Comptroller, Michelle R. Miller

Students from the Criminal Justice programs (Career & Technical Education) participated in a special session hosted by St. Lucie County’s Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller, Michelle R. Miller.  This session included multiple presentations from the St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office, IT department, Detention staff, Probation & Parole officers, court staff, and more!  Students were then provided an opportunity to tour the Courthouse and sit in on a live trial. The Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Strikes Again

The Port Saint Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion Drill Team competed in Santaluces High School Drill Competition against six other schools on January 19th. The competition consisted of Armed Squad, Unarmed Squad, male individual Exhibition, female Individual Exhibition, Let one squad, Male/Mixed dual exhibition, and Color Guard.  The Jaguars did incredibly well in their first competition of the season. St. Lucie West K8 Sharks in Motion

Middle school students in Ms. Velazquez’s science classes learned how to describe motion with graphs. Students answered two essential questions; how an object’s motion can be recorded on a graph and how can a graph help you understand an object’s motion. They had four different tasks to perform: hopping, walking backwards, walking normally, and speed walking.  They were timed and given how quickly they arrived at the appointed destination (5 meters and 10 meters) which they then wrote down. Fifth-Grade Writing is Colorful at Morningside Elementary

Fabulous fifth-grade teachers at Morningside collaboratively plan to engage students in the process of writing. Last week, students used color coding to write argumentative essays about whether zoos should exist. They analyzed different viewpoints and then wrote in order to express their viewpoints using evidence to back up their claims. Next, they were able to read their finished products with their buddy class. Learning sure is colorful at Morningside Elementary.

Jaguars Claim Victory Once Again in Dwyer

On Saturday, February 3rd, the Jaguar Battalion traveled to Dwyer High School. Our Female and Male Teams competed in an Unarmed/Armed Squad, Color Guard, and Exhibition duo/solo. PSL ended up placing 2nd in Female Armed Squad, 1st  in Female Unarmed Squad, 2nd in Female duo exhibition, 1st in female Color Guard, and 1st in solo exhibition. The males place 2nd in Male unarmed squad, 2nd in male armed squad, 2nd in male duo exhibition, and 1st in male Color Guard. K. Pearson Annual Beach Clean-Up

Please join us to honor the memory of our exceptional marine science teacher as we continue her legacy of love for students, learning, and the natural wonders of our coast.   The 5th annual Kimberly Pearson Memorial Beach Clean Up will take place on Saturday, March 2nd at Pepper Park, Pavilion 1, from 9am-noon. Words Get Dressed Up at Floresta

Floresta Elementary celebrated literacy with a Words Get Dressed Up event. Teachers, staff, and students made Everglades-themed vocabulary words come to life with their costumes and visual representations.  K-2 families came out to enjoy a special parade of words!

The Jaguar Battalion’s 29th Annual Military Ball

On Saturday, January 27th, 2024, the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted its 29th Annual Military Ball at the Santa Lucia River Club. Male Cadets wore their Class A Uniform, and female cadets came in formal gowns. Our Jaguar Battalion Color Guard posted the colors to begin the formal portion of the ceremony. Commanding the Color Guard was Cadet Sergeant Major Eathan Clayton as National Flag Bearer, accompanied by Cadet Captain Yurem Garcia as State Flag Bearer, Cadet Captain Alex Franchi as Right Guard, and Cadet Captain Jeremiah Davis as Left Guard. FGMS: Mr. Parkinson’s Geometry Class Learns “Math Real” World Style

Several weeks ago Forest Grove Middle School geometry students went on an amazing field trip. Below is Mr. Parkinson’s summary of this project and field trip. The artwork of MC Escher has been the real-world model that I have used to educate geometry students about transformations and tessellations since I started teaching. SLWK8 Students Explore High School Allied Health Programs

Middle school students explored the Allied Health Certificate offered at many high schools. Students learned about different certificates and related careers and practiced related skills such as how to answer an office phone professionally, file reports, schedule appointments, take blood pressure, clean teeth as a dental hygienist, fill prescriptions like a pharmacy technician, and complete an evaluation as a physical therapist.  

Systems Thinking Through STEAM at SLWK8

Sixth-grade students in Ms. Boham’s STEAM class were learning about Assembly lines and Systems thinking. Students used the Engineering Design Process to design an Assembly line that they then ran twice and timed to see if they could make improvements to the design and improve their time/production.
