Students in and Mr. Kearney and Ms. Sallette’s 7th grade science classes recently had the opportunity to deepen their understanding of Earth’s changing surface through an engaging Tectonic Plate Activity. Designed by our creative teachers, this hands-on lesson allowed students to explore how the movement of Earth’s tectonic plates can lead to major geological events such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, mountain formation, and the creation of ocean ridges.
Using interactive models and materials, students were able to simulate different types of plate boundary movements and observe the effects firsthand. The activity encouraged students to think critically, make predictions, and connect scientific concepts to real-world phenomena. By actively participating in the learning process, students gained a deeper understanding of the standard while developing important problem-solving skills.
The excitement and enthusiasm throughout the classroom were evident as students collaborated, explored, and discussed their observations. Many students shared how much they enjoyed the activity and appreciated the opportunity to learn through hands-on exploration rather than traditional instruction alone.
