Forest Grove Middle School Celebrates Weekly DEAR Fridays

Every Friday, Forest Grove Middle School energizes the day with Drop Everything And Read (DEAR), a schoolwide initiative designed to promote a love of reading. This weekly routine encourages students to pause their morning activities, pick up a book, and immerse themselves in meaningful reading time. Research consistently shows that regular reading strengthens vocabulary, improves comprehension, and boosts confidence in communication—skills that benefit students across all academic subjects.

Our school’s goal is to reach full participation each week, ensuring every student is actively engaged in reading. To make the experience even more exciting, students who are spotted reading are rewarded with a special treat. These small incentives help motivate learners while celebrating their commitment to building strong literacy habits. Through DEAR Fridays, Forest Grove continues to nurture a culture where reading is valued, enjoyed, and shared by all.
