The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Team partnered with Westside Church and St. Lucie Public Schools to again offer a “beeping” Easter Egg Hunt on Thursday, March 29.  The event took place at Westside Church. The Beeping Easter Egg Hunt was specifically offered for students with a visual impairment and featured special eggs that beep to help locate them.  After the hunt, participants were given special goodie bags of treats to enjoy when they returned home.  The project was made possible through equipment and funds provided by the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators (IABTI). The annual St. Lucie County High School Art Show opening is Friday, April 20th, from 5 to 8pm.  This year’s show takes place in the Galleria of Pierce Harbor building at 100 S. 2nd St. in Ft. Pierce. An awards ceremony will take place at 7:15 after the closing of “Peoples’ Choice” voting. Students will be judged in 6 categories for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place, plus a “Peoples’ Choice” award. Below are the winners of the 2018 Drop Savers Water Conservation Poster Contest. Students demonstrated amazing talent and challenged the judges to select from a wide array of creative entries.   Each student was presented with a prize for being selected as a local contest winner. Five of the student entries (noted with an asterisk) have been submitted to the state competition.  Locally, student winners are recognized in each participating grade, but the state recognizes winners in the following divisions: kindergarten/1st grade; 2nd/3rd grade; 4th/5th grade; middle school; high school. Students in 3rd grade invited their parents to school for student led conferences. Students discussed what they learned and shared their goals for the year. Parents were able to see work samples and students’ tracking charts.

Pat Kelly, who this season guided the Treasure Coast High School boys basketball team to the best record in the program’s 12-year history, has been named the Florida Association of Basketball Coaches Class 9A Coach of the Year. Under Kelly, the Titans started 16-0, finished 26-2, won their second consecutive District 8-9A title and advanced to the Region 2-9A semifinals before losing to 2017 state champion Kissimmee-Osceola. “It’s nice to be recognized by my peers,” Kelly said. “It’s a reflection of the fact that we had a group of kids who came together and played well and were persistent in trying to accomplish their … Read More

Students from 12 high schools in St. Lucie, Martin and Indian River counties flexed their mathematical muscles in the annual Math Olympics hosted by the Indian River State College Mathematics Department. Participants competed both individually and as teams from Fort Pierce Westwood, Indian River Charter, Jensen Beach, John Carroll, Lincoln Park Academy, Martin County, St. Edward’s, St. Lucie West Centennial, Sebastian River, South Fork, Treasure Coast and Vero Beach high schools. Competition was fierce as individual opponents started the day with a 39-question written exam assessing mastery of algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Students from Weatherbee, St. Lucie Elementary, White City, and Chester A. Moore explore force and motion as well as reflection and refraction at the Saturday With a Scientist program led by Erin Squires and Kyle Cobb. This program takes place at Indian River State College with groups of fifth graders from across all schools and is organized by the Office of Teaching and Learning’s Paul Reif.  

The Office of Teaching and Learning is excited to share a summer professional development opportunity with ESE teachers.  Join us for a hands-on session in which we will discuss strategies and resources to use when supporting Math instruction with your ESE Students. Dr. Kevin G. Perry, Assistant to the Superintendent, was the featured speaker for the 8th Annual Alumni Day of Service (ADOS) for Bethune-Cookman University’s Events Luncheon.  He delivered a speech entitled, “A Call To Service,”  in which alumni were reminded of the University’s motto, “Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve,” and why their service is relevant and important. During this annual event, alumni return to campus to serve the current students by providing workshops, conducting mock interviews, providing forums, and offering real life real work information and experience to students in an effort to further prepare them for life after college.  … Read More

Don’t miss the AIR – SEA – LAND CHALLENGE robotics event at Treasure Coast High School’s campus on Saturday, April 7th. 10 AM – 3 PM Watch as Titan robotic challenges ensue through obstacle courses and against time. The event features a special middle school drone contest whereby the navigational prowess of young pilots will be tested through a complex obstacle course. Innovation and creativity are on display at this highly anticipated second annual AIR – SEA – LAND CHALLENGE.
