Pilot Club Donates $1,500

At the April 8th School Board Meeting, the Pilot Club of Fort Pierce donated $1,500.00 to the St. Lucie Public Schools Exceptional Education Department to work with students on a project with on-the-job training using technology. STAR Recognition

At the April 8th School Board Meeting, James McKenzie, Executive Director of the St. Lucie County Education Foundation was presented the S.T.A.R. Award for his help with the Music In Our Schools Month. He has been a strong supporter of St. Lucie County Public Schools. Congratulations Jim! Oak Hammock Recognized as PBIS Model School, Bronze Award

Oak Hammock K-8 School was recognized at the May 27th School Board Meeting as a 2012-2013 PBIS Model School. They were presented the Bronze Award by Mr. Robert O’Neill, PBIS District Coordinator. Some of the characteristics of a PBIS Model school are their consistent methods of utilizing data to better serve students and staff, utilizing creative and engaging reward systems, teaching PBIS to new students, extending PBIS throughout the campus and partnering with the community and parents, and including PBIS into daily activities across all available teaching opportunities. Weatherbee Elementary Receives Gold Award for PBIS Model School

Jennifer Avellino, Assistant Principal of Weatherbee Elementary, accepted the Gold Award for the 2012-2013 PBIS Model School at the School Board Meeting on May 27, 2014. Five schools from St. Lucie County were recognized as PBIS Model School for the State. Along with Weatherbee are, Bayshore Elementary, Oak Hammock K-8, Palm Pointe Educational Research School and West Gate K-8, each receiving the Bronze Award. 2014 Martin Luther King Jr. Parade Awards

The Grand Parade is the capstone event of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Commemorative Celebration. Once again this year, all of our schools participated in the parade. At the April 22, 2014 School Board Meeting, representatives from the Commemorative Celebration Committee presented trophies to the winning schools. 100th Anniversary of the Cooperative Extension Service

On April 22, 2014, the 100th Anniversary of the Cooperative Extension Service Resolution was read by Kathryn Hensley and adopted by the School Board. May 8, 2014 marked the centennial of the signing of the Smith-Lever Act which established Cooperative Extension, known in the state of Florida as UF/IFAS Extension and Florida A and M University Extension, the nationwide transformational education system operating through land-grant universities in partnership with federal, state and local government. Dr. Rendell Presents Thought Provoking Question to Oak Hammock First Grade Students

SLPS Assistant Superintendent Dr. Mark Rendell presented Mrs. Joy West’s first grade students with some thought-provoking questions that inspired some important discussion after he read the story “Hey, Little Ant.” To squish or not to squish? What would you do if the ant you were about to step on looked up and started talking? After Dr. Rendell left, students became real life authors and wrote opinion pieces identifying the reasons they gave to support their text.

Believe in Yourself Day

Jacqueline, a 5th grader at Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts, designed  the first annual “Believe in Yourself” day. Students celebrated the positive qualities within themselves and others to motivate one another to be their best every day.

Area Plant Manager receives STAR Recognition

Rosemarie Abbuhl was recognized as a STAR recipient at the April 22nd School Board Meeting. She was recommended by Mrs. Wright, Principal of FK Sweet for her skills as an Area Plant Manager. “Sometimes it’s just the little things we do that can make all the difference.” At the School Board Meeting on April 22, 2014, Linda King, School Office Clerk at Treasure Coast High School, was presented the STAR Award. International Sailing Federation Youth World Championship Team Member

Lincoln Park Academy senior, Luke Muller, has been selected as one of twelve to compete in the 2014 International Sailing Federation Youth World Championship Team Regatta in Tavira, Portugal, on July 12-19, 2014. Luke is a member of the Lincoln Park Academy International Baccalaureate program, has been nominated and appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and has been accepted for admission to Stanford University. Bank Of America donates $5,000

At the April 22nd School Board Meeting, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation provided a $5,000 grant to the St. Lucie County Education Foundation in support of its Working Together for Success Grant Program. Academic A Team

On April 10th to April 12th St. Lucie County Academic Team competed in the State Academic competition held at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. St. Lucie County’s team came in second place, just seven points shy of first. The team scored the highest of any team in one of the rounds of competition with 391 points. The students that represented St. Lucie County were Geoffrey Zeheng from Lincoln Park Academy, William Barr and Nicole Molner from Treasure Coast High, Jeremy Johnson and Lauren Herb from Westwood High and Stephanie Fisher from St. Lucie West Centennial high.

FPC French Club Students Visit Paris, “The City of Light!”

Over spring break, a group of seventeen French Club students and three teacher chaperones from Fort Pierce Central High School departed from Miami International en route to Paris, France. Each day the group sampled a variety of cuisines at various restaurants that ranged from traditional French fare to the food of the French Caribbean, West Africa, and others. The trip included stops at the Louvre and Orsay Museums to admire Leonardo DaVinci’s famous “Mona Lisa” and the works of Vincent Van Gogh.
