St. Lucie West Centennial High School student Jazmine Villa participated in the University of Miami and Holy Cross Health Summer Surgical Scholars (S³) Program, a new immersive program for high school students interested in medicine and surgery, this summer. During the Career Connect Conference, SLW Centennial High School student Janelle Palmer won a day with Kelley Higney, CEO of The Bug Bite Thing, a $40 million St. Lucie company that appeared on Shark Tank. Janelle took advantage of the opportunity over the summer and had the opportunity to spend the day learning firsthand about entrepreneurship and running a multi-million dollar business.
SLW Centennial High School Criminal Justice Students in Ms. Baumgarten’s class visited the law library and courthouse in Fort Pierce. Students were given the opportunity to observe a Trespass and Resisting Arrest Trial. It was a great learning experience for the students.

St. Lucie West Centennial culinary students competed at the 22nd annual State ProStart competitions in Orlando. Senior Dorian Green was recognized as SLW Centennial’s top Culinary Arts student. Senior Kameil Miller placed 4th in State in the Edible centerpiece competition. SLW Centennial’s HOSA students made cards for the Holiday season. They will be sent to a non-profit company called Cards For Kids where they distribute the cards to pediatric patients spending the holidays in the hospital.
SLW Centennial High School NJROTC celebrated their Annual Military Review and Inspection on November 3rd, 2022. Several students were recognized and given awards for outstanding personal appearance for their uniform inspections. Congratulations to all Cadets and Units on a job well done!
SLW Centennial High School Culinary Arts Academy was adopted by Kyle G’s restaurant group through the Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association. With this “adopt-a-class” program, local restaurateurs and restaurants are able to involve students in real-world field trips, internships, guest speaking, and more. On Friday, October 28th, the students took a trip to see the workings of both front of the house and back of the house at Kyle G’s Oyster Bar in Saint Lucie West, Florida. The students had a great time working their way through the restaurant and watching live demos in their open kitchen.
The SLW Centennial Unified Track Team placed 5th in the 4×100 race in the state competition of the Special Olympics. Congratulations!
Medical Academy students at St. Lucie West Centennial High School participated in a pinning ceremony on Friday, May 6, to honor those students who earned the CNA and/or EKG Certification. Congratulations Eagles!
On March 3rd and 4th, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office Drone Training Squad visited Criminal Justice classes at SLW Centennial High School as part of the unit on Careers in Criminal Justice. Students learned about the use of drones in aiding law enforcement and students in each class got to operate the drone cameras during flight.

Congratulations to Justine Grenier-Fillion for advancing to the State Science Fair. Justine is a senior at St. Lucie West Centennial High School and is taking both Anatomy and Physiology Honors and AP Biology. Justine’s project looked to identify genetically modified organisms in common corn-based foods such as tortilla chips, corn muffin mix, and even corn flour sold at the grocery store. In her experimental design process, Justine was able to learn about and perform polymerase chain reactions (PCR), gel electrophoresis, and how genes can be modified in organisms. SLW Centennial’s HOSA students made holiday cards for hospitalized kids. They will be sent to “Cards for Hospitalized Kids” and distributed in Hospitals & Ronald McDonald Houses across the nation. HOSA and the medical academy will be donating cards every holiday.
