Students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently had a “Twin Day” to raise money for Relay for Life. This organization raises money for cancer awareness and for different services for cancer patients. Each year Palm Pointe participates and several activities are planned to help raise money.  Pictured are third grade students from Rosary Polanco’s class that wanted to all dress alike. State Farm agent Janine Tillman sponsored the fourth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition by donating trees and wildflower seeds for Arbor Day. Students learned the importance of taking care of the Earth, not only for themselves but for future generations. They were all excited to plant, care for, and watch their trees grow for many years to come.  Pictured are students from Victoria Cornelius’ fourth grade class as they show their certificates, trees and seeds.

Eighth grade Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition student Drew Maciel won second place in the  middle school category for the Martin Luther King, Jr., oratorical contest which was recently held at Lincoln Park Academy. Drew, pictured, was allowed up to three minutes to capture the audience with his speech and he did. Congratulations Drew! 

Third grade students in Millerlandy Palomino’s class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently researched and presented their findings about different customs and traditions for celebrating the New Year. Students picked a country and did the research for the topic. The parents were invited to their class to hear the students’ reports and see the PowerPoint presentation that was made to support their research. Foods from different countries were brought in to share.  It was a great learning experience as well as a lot of fun!  Pictured is Braylen Lopez as he presents his report on Puerto Rico.

First grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently performed a multicultural holiday event for families. The students sang songs from different countries, such as Jingle Bells and Feliz Navidad which were led by music director Christine Hill. After the performance, the families were able to sample foods from many different countries and enjoy the company of families and friends. It was a great learning experience for all!

The Rocket Chorus from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently visited Torrey Pines Research Center in Tradition to sing for the WPSL Christmas Kids radio program. Pictured are Lillian Bloom, left, and Grace Lloyd, who were among the 63 students who participated in the performance. The Palm Pointe chorus has been singing for the local program since the school opened.

The morning show crew at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition does a great job each morning letting the students and staff know what is happening around campus.  Each student on the crew has a specific job such as an anchor position, weather/special events/script, mixer/director, sound board, teleprompter, studio cameras, minidv/dvdplayer, and chyron graphics. The students do a great job with all the equipment and delivering the news to the school. Maurizio Apostolico is the teacher that teaches them how to use all the different equipment. Pictured, from left, back, are Marissa Abbott, Stephan Lepore, Charity Bell, Max the Puppet, Anthony Ceglio, … Read More

Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently held its annual Breakfast with Santa. Over 500 breakfasts were sold with pancakes, eggs, sausage and coffee or juice. The students had so much fun with the different holiday crafts that were available. There was face painting along with raffles, and, of course, pictures with Santa. Santa made his entrance aboard a fire truck which was so exciting for the kids. Dean Debborah Estrada brought her keyboard player and sang throughout the event. The event was so memorable and everyone had a fantastic time! Pictured is the Casey Family as they all came to the event to enjoy the day together.

Fourth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition learn to write their own melodies and then play them on their recorders! Christine Hill, music director, helped her students create a rhythm and then put the melodic pitches to them. The last step was to put the whole melody on the musical staff. Pictured, from left, are Breana Lamothe, Noah James, Alexandra Sessa and Harlem Lilly.

The kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition had an old fashioned Indian Pow- Wow. Students and teachers dressed in Indian attire and went outside to do many activities. They played their handmade drums, they learned an Indian dance and participated in other centers while outside. Pictured are students listening to an Indian story which was one of the centers.

The Make a Teacher a Classroom Hero program sponsored by “Little Debbie” was held during the month of August 2012. The area distributor who had the top sales total for the month would choose their favorite K-12 teacher to be a Classroom Hero and award that teacher with a $300.00 Visa gift card to use for their classroom supplies. Third, fourth and fifth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition investigated, examined and studied various artists and their work.  After creating their own original works of art based on the artist they researched, students digitized their work and then used Adobe Photoshop to enhance their images. The work was framed and hung in the newest gallery at the school.

The book fair at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition is in full swing and is an all-star event. Parents and students throughout the school are purchasing books and enjoying the display of all the choices of books. Books can also be ordered online from Scholastic. Students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition experienced the voting process by participating in a mock election for the President of the United States. Students read non-partial literature and reviewed real ballots before voting.  The simulated election connected students to current events and deepened their knowledge of the patriotic process. Pictured casting their votes are third graders Dustin Condra, left, and Sebastian Rodriguez.

Eighth grade students in Maurizio Apostolico’s Broadcast Communications class at Palm Pointe Educational Research @ Tradition are busy creating videos and taping segments on the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program. Their videos are showing ways to earn rocket fuel at Palm Pointe and ways not to earn rocket fuel. Pictured, from left, are Annabelle Buttimer and Daniela Chavez working the cameras and Jessica Fouts and Serena Williams seated are acting out the scene.

Fourth grade students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition spent a recent afternoon unraveling math and science mysteries about pumpkins! Through hands-on activities, students and parents measured the weight, height, and volume of their pumpkin. They then created a bar graph comparing the data they collected. The students predicted how many seeds were in their pumpkins and also used estimation strategies on a large jar of candy corn. A fun day was had by all!  Pictured are Chase Martin and his mother, Lydia Martin, working together on one of the centers.

The kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently enjoyed their annual Storybook Character Parade. The students selected a book to read and dressed up as the book’s main character. Students and teachers paraded through the halls around the school so that students in other grades could see them. Parents were invited to come and see the parade too. After the parade, parents went to their child’s classroom to enjoy activities and refreshments.  Pictured are students in Patricia Ifill-Bowen’s class.

Lisa Weil and Karol Carvelli’s reading class at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition was visited by mystery reader Adam Jones, a Port St. Lucie businessman.  Mr. Jones, a long- time resident in the area and British national shared his knowledge of English pounds and read from the novel, “Around the World in 80 Days.” Students ate British scones while listening to Jones’ interpretation of Phileas Fogg.  Pictured, left, is Mr. Jones with students from the class and Karol Carvelli, back right.

The Starbright Therapy Dogs visit Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition every week and visit and read with the middle school autistic students.  Pictured is coordinator Dot Blair with Music, an Australian Shepherd that loves coming each week and reading with the students. Music looks great dressed up for Halloween!

The Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society recently conducted its annual food drive. This is the fifth year that the food drive has been held in October. The club collected 16 boxes full of food for the local food bank, Harvest Outreach, in St. Lucie County. The food collected will help support many families that don’t have food for the fall holidays. This is a very worthwhile cause.  Pictured are NJHS members gathering the boxes.
