Students in the third grade classrooms at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition have been learning about different reading skills. To heighten the students’ awareness of these skills and to incorporate a creative, hands-on activity, every year third graders create Pumpkin People projects. Students partner to read a storybook and organize their information into various maps to show cause and effect relationships, character development, vocabulary, and elements of a story. Get your ice cold lemonade, for only 75 cents at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition! The first nine weeks of school, students in Kaitlyn Olesik’s autistic middle school class worked very hard on identifying coins and their values. They put all of their prior and new knowledge to the test by opening up their very own class lemonade stand! A group of students from the St.Lucie Schools’ youth golf program competed in the Martin County junior tournament recently. The tournament was held at the Martin County Golf and Country Club in Stuart. Taking first place in their divisions are, from left, Gina Carvelli from Palm Pointe K-8 in the girls 10-12 year old, Cameron Beach from Morningside Elementary in the boys 7-9 year old, and Savannah Hawthorne from Palm Pointe K-8 in the girls 7-9 year old division. Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition held its third annual Music Open House recently. Parents, grandparents and other family members of kindergarten through fourth grade students were invited to attend music class. Participants experienced what a typical music class is like at Palm Pointe. Parents participated in “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”, played rhythm sticks, played drums and the Orff instruments. Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition’s first grade students recently enjoyed a presentation by the Ft. Pierce Manatee Observation and Education Center. Students heard information on “Habitats, Who Lives Where?” After the discussion, students were able to see and touch a turtle, snake and lizard. This was a fun, interactive learning experience for everyone.

Karol Carvelli, Volunteer Coordinator for Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition, recently welcomed the volunteers/business partners at an orientation. A fabulous breakfast was provided by PNC and Tropical Smoothie, and was served to approximately 45 volunteers that joined the Palm Pointe team. They signed up for committees and were informed of volunteeer procedures.  These volunteers support the school in numerous ways and have volunteered as many as 50,000 hours in one school year and are very much appreciated at Palm Pointe. 

Students and staff at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently enjoyed wearing their favorite team jerseys, an annual fundraising event. Everyone donated $1.00 to help support Big Brothers, Big Sisters’ annual Bowl for Kid’s Sake. Students and staff look forward to helping out this organization every year. 

Fifth grade teacher Michelle Powers and fourth grade teacher Jade Joie from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition were recently awarded a grant to fund a mathematics program. Explore Learning Reflex is an award –winning game-based system that enables students of all abilities to develop instant, effortless recall of math facts in all four operations.  Reflex’s highly adaptive technology provides each student with an optimized path from the initial acquisition of new facts through to full automaticity. The bus drivers that service Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition were recognized for all that they do for our students at a recent breakfast. Volunteer and PTO member Pam Molner made a spectacular breakfast for everyone with eggs, bacon, sausage, crepes with fresh strawberries, home fries, fruit cups and other scrumptious food.  A PowerPoint presentation by Dean Estrada and Dean Pierre focused on bus data for the last few years, safety, student conduct and positive reinforcement. It was a great opportunity to visit and get to know the bus drivers that come to Palm Pointe.

Students in Thomas Carr’s eighth grade science classes at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently had a competition for “Boats in the Moat”. The objective was for students to design and construct a boat which when set afloat in a moat 10 feet long will travel (powered solely by a three speed fan) the entire length of the moat in the shortest period of time. This lesson taught them about the scientific method and variables. Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently participated in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. This fundraiser helps teach students to value their health and to help those less fortunate and don’t have healthy hearts.  The top three student fundraisers from each class earned the opportunity to slime the physical education coaches. The middle school Hoops for Heart will be in February with the proceeds also going to the American Heart Association. Palm Pointe would like to thank Nicole Perez, the school representative from the American Heart association, for all her help. Pictured, from left, are … Read More

Media specialist Elsie Garber, right, and media clerk Kathy Ferguson from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition introduced the book “Mr. Wiggles” to Melissa Bonet’s kindergarten students. Ms. Ferguson read the book, which is about how to take care of the books in the library, to the students in the class. This lesson will be very helpful for these kindergarten students when they go to the library to check out books.

Melissa Bonet’s “Busy Bees” kindergarten students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition recently welcomed their grandparents to school in celebration of Grandparent’s Day. Students and grandparents worked on a craft together to show their love and appreciation for each other and enjoyed spending quality time together. Dean Deborrah Estrada and Dean Christopher Pierre at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition have been talking to kindergarten students about making good and safe choices. The deans reminded students about Palm Pointe T.E.A.M. expectations:  T – Take Responsibility, E – Engage in your Learning, A – Act Respectfully and M –Make Safe Choices. They also explained about the reward system with “rocket fuel” and consequences for not following rules. Great job listening, kindergartners!

The eighth grade Algebra 1 Honors students at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition were getting their chapter one test review via QR Codes.  QR Codes are the square barcodes that have more product information. QR codes were created free on line and when scanned came back to the student, on their device, with the questions the students needed for their review.  Students used the codes through a scavenger hunt activity.  Once they solved the question they had scanned, students had to find the next question with the answer they got and continue until they completed all questions on the … Read More

Teachers and staff welcomed back students and parents for the 2012-2013 school year at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @Tradition’s “Open House”.  Families met their new teachers, purchase planners and spirit shirts, get information on before and after school providers, pay lunch money and get information on buses. Students also visited the library to turn in their summer reading logs and families visited teachers from previous years. It was a fantastic day seeing everyone anxious to begin the new school year!  Pictured, from left, are Mrs. Losee, Clayton Losee, Colby Losee and kindergarten teacher Jenny Clancy.

Dr. Adolph Brown, Passionate Educator is pictured with Brandi Pagano, speech-language pathologist at Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition.  Dr. Brown, “The World’s Greatest Edu-tainer,” kicked off the school year right for all of St. Lucie Public Schools educators with an informative, awe inspired and energized presentation! Dr. Brown lives in Brandi’s hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is a professor at Hampton University where Brandi received her Master’s Degree.
