Snowballs Fly at Weatherbee

Snowballs in all colors of the rainbow were whizzing through the air outside Weatherbee Elementary School this week. The PBIS Event for January was… a SNOWBALL FIGHT! Students spent their Mariner Dollars to buy into this annual fun filled affair which is always one of the most popular highlights of the WBE Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support program.

WBE Ends 2016 With Episodic Reading Event

Weatherbee hosted an episodic reading event on the last day before winter break.  Members from the community, including SLPS District Office employees, St. Lucie County School Board Members, business leaders, St. Lucie County Commissioners, and law enforcement professionals came to Weatherbee to share their love of reading with our Mariners.  Each guest reader visited three classrooms, read a book aloud, and shared how literacy has positively impacted their lives.

Lions Club Makes Donation to WBE

Weatherbee Sends Supplies To Haiti and Bahamas

The families, faculty, and staff of Weatherbee Elementary recently collected and filled over 100 shoeboxes with much needed health care supplies for our neighbors in hurricane stricken Haiti and Bahamas.  Mrs. Guermithe Ogé and Mrs. Darlene Sydné coordinated the collection drive.

Weatherbee Admin Get Doused With Gravy

At Weatherbee, we recently celebrated the end of our latest Reading Challenge. Classes that met their reading points goal were treated to watching our principal and assistant principal get doused with gravy!! The students who earned the highest amount of points in each class did the honors of pouring a cup of gravy over our literary pilgrims – a.k.a. Mr. Hitsman and Ms. Avellino.

Weatherbee Hosts Annual Episodic Reading Day

On Friday, January 29, Weatherbee Elementary hosted its annual Episodic Reading Day. The event was a huge success and a perfect ending to the many activities planned for Literacy Week. The Women’s Volleyball and Basketball teams from Indian River State College shared stories with students and talked to them about the importance of sportsmanship and keeping good grades in order to participate in sports. For the 5 weeks preceding the FSA Writing Assessment, students in grades 4 and 5 are eligible to enter weekly drawing if they show improvement on their writing score from the previous week. Weatherbee Student Places First In 2016 MLK Youth Essay and Oratorical Contest

Weatherbee Hosts Breakfast With Santa

Principal Michael Hitsman and Assistant Principal Jen Avellino welcome Santa Claus to Weatherbee on Saturday, December 5th.  Students and their families who attended the annual Breakfast with Santa event enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast, face painting, shopping at the PTO Holiday Shoppe, and getting their picture taken with the jolly old elf himself!

Weatherbee Receives Gold PBIS Model School Award

Weatherbee Elementary School has once again achieved Gold Level Model PBS School status. Recently, Dr. Lurana Hillard presented the PBIS team with a certificate of success for the 2013-14 school year along with gold pins for all faculty and staff.  Pictured is the PBIS team accepting the award.

Weatherbee Fall Reading Challenge Ends With a Pie in the Face

On Monday, November 24th, the Weatherbee Fall Reading Challenge ended.  570 students read 10,379.123 words and earned a total of 7,785 points.  The top students in each class received the honor of throwing a cream pie at their teacher!  Pictured is Katelynn Justice pieing her teacher, Mrs. Melanie MacPherson, as teacher Mr. Ed Strivelli looks on.

PSLHS Marching Jaguar Band at 33rd Annual Crown Jewel

The PSLHS Marching Jaguar Band, under the direction of Band Director Mr. John McGallagher,  recently competed in the 33rd Annual Crown Jewel Marching Festival in Vero Beach.  They marched away with the following trophies in the Bronze Division:  Best in Class Overall, Best in Class General Effect, Best in Class Music, Best in Class Marching, Best in Class Auxiliary, Superior Drum Major, and  Outstanding Participation,  After competing in Finals, they also took 2nd runner up in the Ruby Division.
