St. Lucie West K8’s School Counseling Department goes above and beyond to advocate and support our students. This past week we celebrated National School Counseling Week. Our School Counselors invited our staff to celebrate throughout the week in our Student Services hallway. Shark Nation Super Bowl Fraction Review

St. Lucie West K8 third-graders were pumped for the Super Bowl! Mrs. D’Andrea and Mrs. Schettini’s third-grade AMP Math classes had a Super Bowl-themed Fraction Review Day. Students teamed up to go head-to-head in various fraction-based activities. They rotated around the room to compete individually and to work in teams. Not only were students cooperatively learning to solve real-world math problems, but they were able to show their team spirit as well! Our proud principal, Mr. Lezeau even joined in on the fun! Students are heading towards success by making learning fun and full of Shark Nation spirit!

St. Lucie West K-8 Math Night for K-5th grade was amazing! Students had a Fin-Tastic time walking through the aisles of Publix, exploring different departments, and solving real-world math problems. It was a fun, hands-on experience that truly brought learning to life. Students thoroughly enjoyed solving problems with their teachers, friends, staff, and our Proud Principal, Mr. Lezeau! It was a wonderful way to bring our families of Shark Nation and community together to emphasize the importance of mathematics in our everyday lives. St. Lucie West K8 Celebrates Dr. King’s vision of unity to construct a 1st Place Float! Students and teachers came together to build a float to showcase the shark spirit with the parade theme “Change Begins with Me.” Teachers came before and stayed late after school, even giving their weekend to build the float for the January 20th Parade in Ft. Pierce. Students worked in their free time to paint, construct, connect, and create the float. Shark Chefs from Ms. Tremblay’s Culinary Class completed their Entrepreneurship Unit! Students were thrilled to create their vision for a Food Truck. On the final day before class presentations, Teppan Nyoko, one of SLWK8’s Business Partners came to teach and support our students. SLWK8 Sharks Sweeten the End of Semester and 2024

Mrs. Boham’s SLWK8 STEAM SHARKS added a touch of mint to sweeten the end of their semester and year.  Previously, students designed candy bars and then voted to pick the favorite from each class, then an overall favorite for all classes. The winning bar was “Snowy Days” which was created by 7th graders.  Students layered in the fun when they proved themselves as chocolatiers and made a batch of the bars for themselves. While not ready to go into full production, the candy bar was a yummy treat to enjoy before winter break. Students truly enjoyed and loved their delicious designs!

Shark Nation’s Yearbook Staff has worked tirelessly to create our stunning SLWK8 Yearbook. Throughout the school year under the guidance of their incredible advisors, Mr. ” Jessie” Steckler and Mrs. Quiles, they worked to set the creative tone through capturing incredible photos of our school events. SLWK8 Shark Bridges are Falling Down – On Purpose!

Mrs. Boham’s STEAM students designed and built bridges to test the efficiency of failure points. SKWK8 STEAM Sharks brought the bridge down this week! Sharks explored careers in construction and civil engineering to design and build bridges from balsa wood as a concept for a future bridge over the Indian River Lagoon.  They spent time analyzing the environmental and structural requirements needed for location, climate, and population. After learning bridge terminology, they applied the terms to design a bridge that would hold up under compression and tension forces. Shark Nation’s Color Run was a very bright success! St. Lucie West K8 students participated in the 2024 Annual Color Run and had an absolute blast. SLWK8 Living Wax Museum

Our third graders did an outstanding job with their annual Living Wax Museum. The creativity and research they put into their projects to embody Influential Americans was exceptional! Kindergarten, first and second-grade students cheered as the students made their way to the parent pick-up area. When they arrived, parents were able to drive through and cheer them on. Way to go 3rd Grade!  

SLWK8 Illuminates Through Area and Perimeter

In Mrs. Quiles’s vibrant 3rd grade class, math came to life with a glow-tastic area and perimeter activity! Students lit up their learning with glow lights and highlighters as they tackled real-world problems involving composite figures. With the visual models and essential formulas, students illuminated their understanding of area and perimeter, making math both fun and memorable. What a colorful journey where creativity meets critical thinking!
