Bargaining Teams Reach Agreement for St. Lucie Public Schools’ CWA

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) reached a positive agreement with its Communications Workers of America (CWA) partners on Thursday, August 24, for the 2017 – 2020 Contract which includes compensation and benefits for the 2017 – 2018 school year. Lights On Afterschool

Don’t miss the 3rd Annual Lights On Afterschool Event.  This year’s south county event will take place on October 2 at the Port St. Lucie Community Center, and the north county event will take place at the PAL Center on October 12. The Eclipse

On Monday, August 21, 2017, there will be a partial solar eclipse viewable in St. Lucie County. The eclipse is slated to begin at approximately 1:30 pm and end at 4:20 pm, with the maximum coverage at 2:55 pm. The day of the eclipse is a great learning opportunity for students and adults, but many may be unaware of the dangers. We have a unique opportunity on Monday, August 21! This will be the first time in 99 years that a total solar eclipse will cross the nation coast-to-coast. In Florida, as the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, it will only partially block the Sun making it look like early evening in the middle of the day. Students, staff, parents, and community members welcomed the first day of school with celebrations and affirmations of success.  Recognizing the great strides made in 2016-2017 serve as a catalyst for continuing the forward momentum this school year.   Points of Pride B-Rated School District Soared To 13th From 45th In State Graduation Ranking Improved In 10 Of 11 School Grade Components Leaped To 32nd From 45th In Total District Points Ranking Grew To 626 Points From 573 Points (+53) No Failing Schools

The Transportation Team provides service to approximately 23,000 student riders each day and travels nearly six million miles per year.  Making certain that students are delivered to and from school safely is the priority for this Department. To assist parents and guardians with questions about their child’s routes or pick-up times, operators are ready to assist.  The number to call is 772-204-RIDE.

Jaguar Musicians Find Harmony

Student musicians in St. Lucie Public Schools returned early to begin practicing and refining their craft in preparation for musical performances for audiences throughout the District this fall. Port St. Lucie High School’s Jaguar Band found a beautiful day to harmonize with Mother Nature and rehearse on the field under beautiful blue skies.
