Jaguars Excel at State Raider Competition

On November 13th, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion attended The Florida State Raider Meet in Lake Wales. The Raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 3-mile run, 1-mile Litter carry, Fitness test, Tire Flip, and Constructing, and crossing a rope bridge. The Male team came in 3rd place in the fitness challenge. The female team captured their first-ever State Championship in the Rope Bridge Event and 2nd place in Tire Flip. Both teams qualified for Nationals Raider Meet next year in Molena, GA.  

Veterans Day

On Thursday, November 11th, 170 cadets from the Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion participated in the Veterans Day ceremony at Veterans Memorial Park to honor veterans who have served and continue to serve our country. Everyone was gathered at 1100hrs (11:00 AM) in formation as they spoke about the history and importance of Veterans Day. The cadets were honored to pay respect to our veterans.

Veterans Day Celebration

On Veterans Day, Port St. Lucie High School’s JROTC presented and posted the colors during the Veterans Day Celebration at The Cascades. The cadets ate dinner with the veterans and had a chance to speak and learn about their sacrifices.

Morningside’s Morning Service

On Sunday, November 7th, the Port St. Lucie Jaguar Battalion presented the Colors to honor all the Veterans during Morningside Church’s morning service. Commanding the Color Guard was National Flag Bearer Cadet Major Mery Fuentes accompanied by Cadet Major Elena Garcia as the State Flag Bearer, Cadet Captain Kristian St.Vil as a right guard, and Cadet Major Christopher Penate as the left guard.

Schools of Excellence!

Congratulations to the SLPS Schools of Excellence! The State Board of Education designates a school as a School of Excellence if the school’s percentage of possible points earned in its school grade calculation is in the 80th percentile or higher for at least two of the last three school years. This program was created by the 2017 Florida Legislature.

STATES HERE WE COME!!!

The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion attended the Area 3 Regional State Qualifying Raider meet at Camp Tanah Keeta, hosted by Jupiter High School, on October 29th, for the right to represent Area 3 at the State Raider meet. The Raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 1.7-mile run, 1-mile litter carry, gas can carry, tire flip, as well as constructing and crossing a rope bridge. The Jaguar Battalion Males and Females captured 1st place overall and qualified for the State Raider meet on November 13th, in Lake Wales, Florida.

PSLHS JROTC Travels to South Fork

The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion attended their first away Raider challenge at South Fork High School, on Oct 16th.  Schools throughout St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, and Palm Beach counties participated in the meet. The Raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 2.8-mile run, 1-mile Litter carry, obstacle course, tire flip, and constructing, and crossing a rope bridge. The Jaguar Battalion Males captured 1st place overall and our Females placed 2nd.

PSLHS Raider Meet

The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC hosted the Annual PSL Raider challenge on Saturday, October 9th. Ten schools throughout St. Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee, and Palm Beach counties competed. The Raider competition consisted of six events: a 2.5 mile run, 1 mile litter carry, HUMVEE push, fitness test with carrying sandbags, constructing and crossing a rope bridge, and tire flip. The Jaguar Battalion male and female teams placed 1st overall. Congrats to a job well done as they compete next week at South Fork High School.

Sponsored by the Education Foundation and made possible by private donations, students who show proof of full vaccination for COVID-19 to school administration during the month of October will receive a $25 Walmart gift card while supplies last. SLPS continues to encourage all eligible individuals age 12 years old and older to get vaccinated for COVID-19.

D.Y.G.A.R Event

On Saturday, September 11th, the Port St. Lucie High School JROTC Jaguar Battalion participated in the “Do You Give A Ruck?” event. This honor guard’s purpose was to remember the victims of 9/11 and to ensure their voices are still heard.  The PSLHS JROTC cadets assisted in the setup, marched a mile in remembrance, and helped the vendors tear down at the end. It was a great success for a worthy cause.

PSLHS Outstanding Cadet Board

On Wednesday, October 6th, chosen cadets of the Port Saint Lucie Jaguar Battalion participated in the Outstanding Cadet Board (OCB). Two cadets from each company, a Let 1 and a Let 2/3, competed against each other on the OCB. They are also awarded points for proficiency on what they have learned in the program. Although every individual may not qualify for the outstanding cadet, all participants are awarded and recognized for their participation. On Wednesday, October 6th, Superintendent Gent, Board Vice Chairman Dr. Donna Mills, Board Member Jack Kelly, Education Foundation Executive Director Thom Jones, Dr. Jon Prince, Dr. Kevin Perry, Latricia Woulard, and Lydia Martin made surprise visits to announce the Principal and Assistant Principal of the Year! Bayshore Elementary Receives $5,000 Donation from New Burlington Store

Bayshore receives a $5,000 donation from the new Burlington store! Burlington Stores, the national discount retailer, through its partnership with the national non-profit organization, AdoptAClassroom.org, has donated $5,000 towards school supplies to Bayshore Elementary in celebration of its new store now open in Tradition. A representative from AdoptAClassroom.org contacted the district Communications Office who helped to secure the donation for Bayshore Elementary which will provide $142 in new supplies for each teacher’s classroom. St. Lucie Experts Present at FAEDS

Two experts from St. Lucie Public Schools recently presented at the FAEDS (Florida Association of Educational Data Systems) Conference. Julia Hilburn presented on Microsoft Bookings and Calendar-based logs.  The session was extremely successful. Microsoft was overly proud and shared the information with the SLPS District Representative. Other school districts from across Florida asked if Julia could partner with them to share ideas. St. Lucie Public Schools Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

First Lady Casey DeSantis announced that the theme for Hispanic Heritage Month will be “Celebrating Hispanic-American Community Leaders and Champions” and released information regarding the student art and essay contests and Excellence in Education awards. Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized and celebrated in the United States from September 15 to October 15. SLPS Expands COVID-19 Testing Sites in Partnership with Allied Health

In an effort to provide easy access for employees, students, and their families to COVID-19 tests, St. Lucie Public Schools has partnered with Allied Health to offer both PCR and Rapid tests free of charge.  Currently, there are four locations open Monday through Friday at Manatee Academy, Fort Pierce Central High School, Port St. Lucie High School, and Lincoln Park Academy. Port St. Lucie High School’s Blood Drive

On Wednesday, September 8th, Port St. Lucie High School Jaguar Battalion conducted their first Blood Drive of the year. The Blood Drive ran smoothly, and we are thankful to have had the opportunity to benefit the community. Thanks to the JROTC Cadets, faculty, and members of OneBlood, we were able to donate enough blood to save over 150+ lives.
