First Lady Casey DeSantis announced that the theme for Hispanic Heritage Month will be “Celebrating Hispanic-American Community Leaders and Champions” and released information regarding the student art and essay contests and Excellence in Education awards. Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized and celebrated in the United States from September 15 to October 15.
St. Lucie Public Schools will be celebrating through a social media campaign highlighting Hispanic Heritage Facts and notable people of Hispanic descent.

Art Contest
(Grades K-3)
Governor Ron DeSantis’ and First Lady Casey DeSantis’ Hispanic Heritage Month Art Contest is open to all K-3 students in the state of Florida.
Entry Dates: Entries must be mailed to Volunteer Florida: Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, 1545 Raymond Diehl Road, Suite 250, Tallahassee, FL 32308. All entries must be received no later than 5 pm ET on Monday, October 11, 2021. Emailed, scanned, or faxed entries will not be accepted. Contestants are responsible for all shipping costs.
Awards: Two winners will be selected and notified. Once the winners are announced, the decision is final.

Essay Contest

Three winners will be selected: one elementary school student (grades 4-5), one middle school student (grades 6-8), and one high school student (grades 9-12).
Entry Dates: Entries can be mailed to Volunteer Florida, Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, 1545 Raymond Diehl Road, Suite 250, Tallahassee, FL 32308, or submitted electronically through the online submission form. Awards: Winners will receive a 4-Year Florida College Plan scholarship provided by Florida Prepaid College Foundation. Once the winners are announced, the decision is final.

Governor Ron DeSantis’ and First Lady Casey DeSantis’ Hispanic Heritage Month Excellence in Education Award Contest is open to any full-time educator who works in an elementary, middle, or high school in Florida (including public, charter, private, homeschool and virtual schools). Nominations may be submitted by a principal, teacher, parent/guardian or student.
