In a recent press release from Girls on the Run of the Treasure Coast, “Southport Middle School made history with eleven brave and beautiful girls who met for their first session of Girls on Track in St. Lucie County. The Girls on Track program, for girls in 6th through 8th grade, uses an experience-based curriculum which integrates running to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. Southport Middle School Celebrates Literacy

Southport students celebrated Literacy Week with a giant book swap, popcorn, raffles, and a beautiful afternoon in the courtyard. Students were asked to bring in a gently used book  they have read and enjoyed, and would recommend to a friend. There were plenty of wonderful books to choose from. The book exchange was just one of the fun ways students had the chance to celebrate literacy with their fellow classmates.

Southport Middle School Literacy Pow Wow

Southport Middle School had a wonderful turn out for their very first Literacy Pow Wow Night. Over 100 students, parents, faculty, and staff enjoyed the Hitchiti dancers who put on an amazing show, giving everyone a glimpse of their authentic Native American culture. It was a great night for singing, dancing, eating Native American food and making crafts around the bonfire.

Southport Middle School Presents Beauty and the Beast Jr.

The Performing Arts Department of Southport Middle School presented the Broadway Junior musical, Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast, Jr.” in four fantastic shows. This “tale as old as time” was filled with spectacular costumes, beautiful artwork, props, familiar songs, and dance. The cast and crew of over 75 students rehearsed for weeks to prepare. Many thanks to the additional students, volunteer crew of administrators, teachers, parents and high school students who made the show possible.

Southport Art in the Park

Despite the rain and rearranged plans, everyone enjoyed Art in the Park in Southport Middle School’s cafeteria. Students beamed with excitement as they moved from one delicious activity to the next and enjoyed scrumptious appetizers donated by local businesses, faculty and staff. Students were encouraged to play with their food in the “Food Art” station, where they used fresh produce as paint brushes to create their own masterpieces. A beautiful fresh fruit and vegetable “basket of plenty” was raffled off. Southport Middle School Physical Education students participate in boot camp and cross fit training

Southport Middle School students develop skills necessary to measure their own fitness and physical activity during PE class. As students maintain regular participation in physical activity, they analyze and evaluate their level of involvement in physical activity. Our coaches prepare and motivate students to engage in physical activity outside of school and throughout life. They also provide opportunities for students to develop healthy habits while gaining an appreciation for its importance throughout life. Southport Science Night

Southport Middle School students, parents and teachers had an absolutely delicious time at our first Science Night of the year! Pupils were transformed into young scientists as they experienced the Scientific Method first hand. Southport Middle Schools’ Science Team facilitated an enriching experiment that covered a variety of concepts such as force, motion, and gravity using golf and tennis balls. The learning station activities were engaging and fun. Students left that night with an understanding of the type of thinking a scientist does and the steps involved in conducting an experiment. Southport Drama wows audience with outstanding performance of Little Mermaid Jr.

The Southport Middle School Drama Department wowed audiences in 4 sold-out shows with their performance of “Little Mermaid, Jr.”  With a cast and crew of over one hundred students and volunteers, the show premiered fabulous costumes, a colorful set, and showcased talented singers, dancers and actors as they told the tale both “Under the Sea” and “Part of That World” above the sea.

Southport Middle School students sweep math competition

Five Southport Middle students placed in the Top 10 from the seven participating St. Lucie County public schools in this year’s Sumdog.com math competition. Southport Middle finished third overall in the math competition among all participating schools. Sumdog.com is a website where the students can practice math skills while playing fun games!
