Fifth Grade Students of Lawnwood Elementary Completed a Water Cycle Investigation Activity
Unit: Weather and Climate
Standard: SWBAT create a model of the water cycle, illustrating the role of the Sun and identifying the phase changes involved (evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff, and melting). (SC.5.E.7.1)
SWBAT Investigate the water cycle by making simple observations about how the Sun, clouds, and ocean interact, even outside the typical scientific method. (SC.5.N.1.5)
The students in Ms. Jacob’s 5th Grade Science Class had an exciting time exploring the water cycle through hands-on model building and observations! Students created scientific models to demonstrate evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and runoff while investigating how water moves through Earth’s systems. They discovered how water changes between different states of matter and learned about the important role the Sun plays in providing energy for the cycle. Students also explored how the ocean serves as a major source of water for Earth’s water cycle. This interactive activity sparked curiosity, encouraged teamwork, and brought science to life as students learned by doing, discussing, and discovering like real scientists.
