Fairlawn Elementary Reads It Loud and Proud

Fairlawn Elementary proudly celebrated Literacy Week with a fun and engaging “Read My Shirt” Day that put reading front and center across campus. Students and staff wore shirts featuring words, phrases, and messages, turning hallways and classrooms into living, walking books. Throughout the day, students were encouraged to read the words on one another’s shirts, sparking conversations, laughter, and a shared love of literacy.
This creative activity supported Fairlawn’s commitment to building strong reading skills by reminding students that reading is everywhere—not just in books. Teachers used the opportunity to reinforce sight words, fluency, and comprehension in a joyful, low-pressure way. “Read My Shirt” Day showed that literacy can be fun, social, and interactive. Fairlawn Elementary continues to make reading exciting while fostering confident, curious readers every day.
