Ms. Bosque’s fifth-grade students are comparing and contrasting the basic properties of solids, liquids, and gases, such as mass, volume, color, texture, and temperature. They measured and compared objects and materials based on their physical properties including mass, shape, volume, color, hardness, texture, odor, taste, and attraction to magnets. The students enjoyed working together and recording their research in the lab journals. Also, during this physical science experiment, the students learned about changes in matter. By the end of the activity, the students were able to describe the physical changes water undergoes as it is heated and/or cooled.
