Manatee Academy Students and Staff “Feelin’ Groovy”

Students and staff were “Feelin’ Groovy” at our Rockin’ Family Night. Parents learned about websites they can use with their children at home. We also had Deputy Lopez from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department talk to parents and students about Internet safety. Students were also able to shop for books with their families in our Scholastic Book Fair. St. Lucie County Reading Council – Book Fest

The St. Lucie County Reading Council invites parents and students to Bookfest – a March 5, 2016, literacy event hosted by C.A. Moore Elementary School in Fort Pierce. This free reading festival is scheduled from 10 AM to noon and is designed to provide attendees with a wide variety of literacy resources and information.  Activities and resource stations include: Read to a VIP, Community Resource Information Station, Literacy Games and Prizes, Free Literacy Resource Center, Book Exchange, Mother Goose, and much more!

VIPs Read to Manatee Academy Students

VIP readers visited several classes for our Dr. Seuss Day on March 2nd. Media Specialist Debbie Remington organized this event in which our “VIPs” read to our students and engaged in meaningful conversations about what they read. Students and staff were appreciative of the VIP guests who took time to read with them and celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday. “The more that you read, the more things you will know. Fairlawn Students Make the Score

Fairlawn Elementary School made the SWEET 16 for TTM’s National Contest – The March Math Madness. This means that across the entire country, Fairlawn is in the final 16 schools! This contest allows schools to compete against schools around the country to decide who has the highest average of passed lessons per active student! This is a National Contest with thousands of schools participating!

PBIS Winter Dance at REE a Cool Event!

REE’s PBIS committee hosted a Winter Dance this past month! Students paid 20 Otter Bucks to attend the dance during their resource time. Dancing and fun overflowed as students jammed to the DJ and enjoyed being able to hang out with their friends. Our fabulous PTO decorated and gave out candy. An event sure to be held again and again.

Frances K. Sweet Fourth Grader Wins the Race for St. Jude

Frances K. Sweet staff held their annual Sunrise Stampede 5K/Kid Fun Run in beautiful Fort Pierce on February 27th.  Dorian Newbern was thrilled to award the first place overall prize to fourth grader Raymond Coburn.  He completed the course, which included running over South Beach Bridge twice, in 24 minutes and 17 seconds.  All proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

White City Elementary Kindergarten Students Skype with Famous Author

Students in Mrs. Irby’s and Mr. Tuner’s Kindergarten classes got a special visit in honor of World Read Aloud Day (February 24, 2016). Using Skype video calling technology, picture book author Stacy McAnulty read aloud from her newest book Excellent Ed. Students were able to ask questions and have them answered by the author. She then gave book recommendations to the students. A fun, engaging, time was had by all!  

White City Recognizes Students of the Month

On Friday February 25, 2016,  White City Elementary recognized students for the character trait of the month: Perseverance.  When you persevere, you continue trying to do your best even though something is difficult. Wildcats, we are so very proud of you and know you will continue to do great things!
