Mrs. Power’s third grade class at Fairlawn Elementary reviewed for their district math test by participating in a scoot around the room. Students had a blast moving around the room solving problems and working as a team.
Oak Hammock K8 presented a night filled with fun activities and shopping at the Annual Title 1 Parent Information Night. Parents were presented with information regarding the District’s Attendance Initiative and Parent Engagement as well as other important information. Following the presentation, families participated in a garden rejuvenation activity of stone decorating and then went shopping at the Book Fair. Families left feeling informed and certain that the students and staff at Oak Hammock K8 can Level up Learning, Level up Success.
Two Cadets from the SLW Centennial Navy JROTC unit from SLW Centennial High School participated in Southeast Florida’s Honor Flight Program. The Honor Flight program’s mission is to fly local World War One, World War Two, Korean War, and Vietnam War Veterans to Washington DC, to visit the memorials built to honor their service and sacrifice. The Cadets that had the privileged to participate were Cadet Petty Officer First Class Zachary Columbia and Cadet Petty Officer Third Class Jeremy Sanchez. The honor flight took place on Saturday, September 16th, 2023.
Parkway’s kindergarten team hosted their annual If You Give a Mouse a Cookie Night. It was a fun filled evening with stories, craft activities as well as math and literacy stations. A great time was had by all!
Each VPK- Grade 4 class completed a class project. Students studied various Hispanic countries and learned about the history and traditions of their country. A special thank you goes out to Mr. McCarthy, Ms. Barreto, Mrs. Tison, and Mrs. Jackson for serving as a judge during this competition. The scoring was based on creativity, content, originality, and organization. Lawnwood Leopards are deepening their understanding of cultural diversity. Go Leopards!
Ms. Grant’s middle school students at Allapattah Flats K-8 are taking their procedural writing skills to the next level by using the graphic design program called “Canva.” This program allows them to transform their writing into engaging presentations. Students are using this opportunity to teach their peers various tasks such as “how to care for your cat” and “how to make friends.” The Canva program has a voiceover feature that students are utilizing to record themselves whenever they are using their voice or a communication device. Mrs. Ferrara-Slater’s students participated in an engaging, hands-on learning experience as they explored the parts of a flower and the process of pollination and fertilization. This activity not only taught them about the anatomy of a flower, but also demonstrated the important role that animals, like bees and other pollinators, play in the reproduction of plants and flowers. The Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Jaguar Battalion attended the First Raider Meet of the season at South Fork High School on October 7th. The raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 2.8-mile team run, 1-mile litter carry, 35-pound kettlebell carry, tire flip, and constructing and crossing a rope bridge. The Jaguar Battalion Mixed team finished 4th overall, Female team finished 2nd, Male team captured 1st place overall. All three teams will be competing in the Jupiter raider meet on October 14th at Jupiter High School.
Filling our brains starts with tasty treats, yummy refreshments, and collaboration to fuel ourselves for success! Seniors met in the Cobra Cafeteria with their counselors, success coaches, senior sponsors, and administrators who led student success sessions for best practices for the SAT. Students meet in small groups for SAT prep. Learning together makes in-depth test preparation more successful for Cobras. Best of luck Cobras!

On October 5th, Mr. Nichols’s Criminal Justice 3 class at Centennial had guest speakers from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department visit them. Sgt. Billy Morash, Sgt. Woods, and Sgt. Richardson from the Criminal Investigation Unit, spoke with students about how the division is comprised, and what it takes to be a Crime Scene Investigator. The students had a great time and were able to ask questions throughout the program. We are very thankful for the support that we receive from our local Law Enforcement Agencies.

The SLW Centennial NAVY JROTC “Black Talon” Company participated in an Academic Brain Brawl hosted by Boca Raton High School’s Navy JROTC unit located in Boca Raton, Florida, on Saturday, September 16th, 2023.
