Criminal Justice Student’s Career Exploration with St. Lucie Sheriff’s Office

Criminal Justice Academy students from Treasure Coast High School (Mr. Rios’ class) and Fort Pierce Central (Mr. Wilder’s class) participated in a career exploration session with representatives from the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.  Fort Pierce Central students were able to participate virtually from their campus.  Guest speakers included Crime Scene Investigation (Bridget Blatchford), K9 (Deputy Hill), and Sherriff’s Explorer Units (Deputy Raynolds, Deputy Gomez).

Skilled Trades, Alive and Well at Port St Lucie High

Step into Bruce Gardner’s Construction Trades classroom at Port St Lucie High School and you will see and hear the action.  Students learn, practice skills, and earn industry certification in Building Construction Trades.  Carpentry, Jobsite Safety, Tools and Equipment, Measurement, Residential Electrical, Aluminum Screening, Painting, Drywall Installation and Repair, Residential Plumbing, Residential HVAC, etc. The program is a Pre-apprenticeship that leads into preferred admission into an Apprenticeship after high school graduation.

Robotics, 3D Printing, Saws, Rulers, Measurement Calipers, CNC Machines, Drill Press, AutoCad Design, and Inventor Production, are all a buzz in Phil Depuy’s Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Lab at Treasure Coast High.  It’s a place for those who like to work with their hands, ‘tinker’, build and design. Students learn, practice skills and earn industry certification in MSSC, Inventor, and AutoCad. The program is a Preapprenticeship that leads into preferred admission into an Apprenticeship after high school graduation.

CTE Entrepreneurship Virtual Field Trip

Treasure Coast High International Business students host St Lucie West K8 8th graders for virtual field trip. Entrepreneurship is the focus topic since both classes are studying and working on Entrepreneurship Projects. Treasure Coast High Advanced Manufacturing Students Learn Virtually

Treasure Coast High Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Instructor Mr. Depuy hosted a virtual session with Ms. April Badenhop from Advanced Machine and Tool.  Via Zoom, April covered topics in advanced technology machines, precision measuring, and designing turbine blades.  Big thanks to Mr. Jerry Jacques, Treasure Coast Manufacturers Association (TCMA) for helping to coordinate this virtual learning experience for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering students.  Wow, now that’s a great partnership!  Level Up!

Treasure Coast Manufacturing Advisory Board Meets Virtually

Treasure Coast High School Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering Program’s Advisory Board met the Program’s instructor, Mr. Phil Depuy and Mrs. Aliesha Seitz, CTE Director.  Treasure Coast Manufacturers Association (TCMA) President Jerry Jacques and Economic Development Council (EDC) Vice President Jill Marasa virtually connected with Mr. Depuy, Ms. Seitz and toured the upgraded lab.  Many ideas were exchanged and sessions planned to connect students with members of the Advisory Board and local manufacturing community.   Big thanks to TCMA and EDC for their continued support!  Level up!  

Culinary Arts Teachers Host Virtual Field Trip to the Cake Lady

SLPS Career and Technical Education and Economic Development Council Host Counselor’s Virtual Healthcare Session

St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) partnered with the Economic Development Council (EDC) as an initiative to continue our goals of communicating employment, post-secondary, and scholarship opportunities for our graduating students in St. Lucie Public Schools.  This virtual session featured Mr. Wayne Gent (SLPS Superintendent), Mr. Pete Tesch (EDC President), CareerSource Research Coast, Cleveland Clinic Tradition Hospital (Martin Health), Indian River State College, Keiser University, Lawnwood Medical Center & Heart Institute (HCA), and St. Lucie Medical Center (HCA).  The participants included SLPS counselors, graduation coaches, and medical educators.    

West Prep Veterinary Assisting Adds Classroom Critters

Fort Pierce Westwood Veterinary Assisting students apply hands-on lessons to care for the health and well-being of companion animals. In September, the West Prep Vet Program adopted a diverse group of small companion animals housed at their facility.  Pictured are domesticated hamsters, ferrets, rabbits, guinea pigs, and a chinchilla.

Career and Technical Education Fall Advisory Board Meetings Go Virtual

    The Career and Technical Education (CTE) department has been taking its advisory board meetings to the next level.  The advisory board members include Educators from the CTE programs, business partners and post-secondary institutions (Indian River State College and Keiser University). CTE- Westwood Academy Students Engaged in Presentation by Epilepsy Florida

Fort Pierce Westwood students from Dr. Danielle Garcia’s Health Unit Coordinator program, participated in a virtual guest speaker presentation from Epilepsy Florida.  Students were very engaged and were able to apply the presentation content to their current lesson.  Students in Career and Technical Education programs are still connected to industry and business partners!

St. Lucie County Partnership with Fort Pierce Westwood’s Criminal Justice Academy 911 Program Wins NACO Award

Fort Pierce Westwood’s Criminal Justice Academy was recognized by St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners during the county board meeting.  Ms. Mildred Brown and St. Lucie Public Schools was recognized for the joint effort where students go to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) as interns, guided class tours of the facility yearly, and guest speaker presentations.  This partnership enables students to earn training hours towards their industry certification.  Additionally, students completing the program and earning their 911 industry certification can apply for and become hired by St. Lucie County as Emergency Dispatchers.

Fort Pierce Westwood Veterinary Assisting Advisory Board

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, the W.E.S.T. Prep Magnet’s Brittany Shoun along with Westwood Administration and District CTE Program Specialists met with local veterinarians and veterinary technicians to plan hands-on labs for the Westwood Vet Assisting students.  The Veterinary Assisting facility is revamping the surgical suite and laboratory areas. Robotics Virtual Field Trip

The Robotics program from Fort Pierce Westwood Academy hosted a virtual field trip.  This event was well attended by middle school students and representatives from the Boys and Girls Club of St. Lucie County.

Students Participate in Judge Maynard’s Teen Discourse Session at Federal Courthouse

Students from Fort Pierce Central, Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, Performance Based Preparatory Academy, St. Lucie West Centennial and Treasure Coast High Schools attended a Teen Discourse Session.  This event included students from the Criminal Justice programs where participants heard from multiple professionals working directly in the industry.  Federal Judge Maynard, and Assistant Federal Public Defender Panayotta Augustin-Birch were the organizers for this event held at the Federal Courthouse in Fort Pierce.

Westwood’s Agriscience Virtual Field Trip

Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, W.E.S.T. Prep’s Agriscience program hosted a virtual field trip for Samuel S. Gaines Academy, Forest Grove Middle and Allapattah Flats K8 schools. Students explored the Agriscience career pathway with out leaving their classroom.

St Lucie Students Connect To Their Future at IRSC Great Explorations

Close to four hundred St Lucie Public high school students attended Indian River State College Great Explorations held at IRSC main campus in Fort Pierce.  The annual event attracted juniors and seniors from every high school (Fort Pierce Westwood, Central, Lincoln Park, Mosaic, Port St Lucie, Performance Based, St Lucie West Centennial, and Treasure Coast) who spent the day planning for their future after high school. Each student chose their top career interests and visited four college programs matching those interests.       

Texas Road House Kitchen Krawl

St Lucie Culinary Arts instructors participated in the St Lucie West Kitchen Krawl hosted by Texas Roadhouse! Sarah Kirk, Store Marketer and Tanner Hedberg, Assistant Kitchen Manager welcomed the culinary instructors with open arms.  The Krawl focuses on partnerships to enhance job opportunities and enrich culinary classrooms with relevant industry needs.  Tanner hosted a detailed kitchen tour explaining “soup to nuts” and highlighting the entry-level kitchen positions. Boeing and Aeronyde Visit FPC’s Aerospace Technologies Program

Students in the Aerospace Technologies Academy at Fort Pierce Central High School gained knowledge from experts in the Aerospace career pathways.  Speakers included Paul Cejas, Deputy Chief Engineer for Autonomous Systems from Boeing; and representing Aeronyde was Alexander “Sasha” Biloos, Chief Technology Officer.
