ST. LUCIE COUNTY – According to St. Lucie Public Schools Superintendent E. Wayne Gent, “Effective school leadership is paramount to the overall success of a school and to the success of a thriving school district. That is why we take such care in identifying leaders who have a strong belief system that fosters support for high quality instruction and high expectations that all students can learn at high levels.” Gent named the following individuals as new St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) principals for the coming school year: Keith Davis (Performance Based Preparatory Academy), Adrian Ocampo (Port St. Lucie High School), and Ana Rodriguez-Oronoz (Allapattah Flats K-8). Joseph Lezeau will serve as Intern Principal (Fort Pierce Westwood High School). While not new to principalships in SLPS, the following current principals will assume the leadership of new schools for the 2016-2017 academic year: Roberto Bonsenor (Samuel S. Gaines Academy K-8), Bridgette Hargadine (Southern Oaks Middle School), D’Jion Jackson (Savanna Ridge Elementary School), Felicia Nixon (White City Elementary School), Lisa Sullivan (Dan McCarty Middle School), and Traci Wilke (Lawnwood Elementary School).
“SLPS is showing positive growth as our trends indicate – our graduation rate is projected to surpass the state average, and we are making gains in third grade reading. However, we recognize the urgency to accelerate these growth trends and all of our leaders are committed to focusing on accelerating progress with the support of our great teachers through their quality instruction,” stated Gent. He added, “We will continue to support a strong focus on graduation while also concentrating on early literacy efforts for our youngest learners.”
