St. LUCIE COUNTY — Superintendent E. Wayne Gent announced Rafael Sanchez as the new executive director of Human Resources for St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) which is St. Lucie County’s largest employer. Sanchez will relocate from his role as Human Resources Assistant Director of Montgomery County Public Schools in Rockville, Maryland to assume his new position in April. “The recruitment and retention of quality educators and support staff is critical to the quality education all students deserve,” said Gent. “Hiring the best and the brightest is our goal for our schools and our community. We recognize the need to maintain a more consistent workforce for the sake of continuing our growth as a premier center for education. With Sanchez’s notable achievements, I am confident we will see positive changes to support our schools and our community.”
No stranger to the Sunshine State, Sanchez is looking forward to returning to Florida where he spent six years as a human resources manager for Orange County Public Schools guiding transformation, increasing efficiency, and enhancing customer service ratings. Sanchez said that he is looking forward to serving the community, employees, and students of St. Lucie Public Schools.
He feels a strong connection to the SLPS mission statement which is to ensure all students graduate from safe and caring schools, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and desire to succeed. He said, “This coincides and resonates with my own personal core values and beliefs of a Human Resources professional working in public education.” Sanchez is committed to his work in public education and indicated that is one of the most significant careers a person can choose to pursue. “I am committed to ensuring our students, teachers and staff have all the resources, service, and knowledge my role and team can provide. Like our mission statement, I am guided by making sure all of our Human Resources decisions directly impact both student and employee safety and enhance academic success.”
