Fort Pierce, FL — The percentage of St. Lucie Public Schools fifth and eighth grade students who scored proficiency, or passing, scores on the science section of the 2013 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT) 2.0 went up two percentage points this year compared to last, from 43% to 45%, according to results released today by the Florida Department of Education. Close to four hundred St Lucie Public high school students attended Indian River State College Great Explorations held at IRSC main campus in Fort Pierce. The annual event attracted juniors and seniors from every high school (Fort Pierce Westwood, Central, Lincoln Park, Mosaic, Port St Lucie, Performance Based, St Lucie West Centennial, and Treasure Coast) who spent the day planning for their future after high school. Each student chose their top career interests and visited four college programs matching those interests.

The St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office bomb disposal team on Thursday, April 18, 2019 hosted their annual Beeping Easter Egg Hunt. The event took place place at Westside Church in Fort Pierce. The Beeping Easter Egg Hunt is hosted each year for visually impaired students in the St. Lucie School District and features plastic eggs that beep, assembled by the bomb disposal team. The students and adults all have a wonderful time finding the beeping eggs!
The St. Lucie County Nutrition and Food Services department has been the driving force for eight local schools to earn grants from the Florida Dairy Council and the NFL’s Play 60 initiatives. The schools must be committed to healthy eating plus activity promoting exercise. The schools include Mariposa, Lakewood Park, F. K.
