Summer Adventure Workshops

Let the summer begin!  Our Summer Adventure workshops are back and better than ever!  Each Thursday in July will be a new theme for families to explore – from weather to Florida Wildlife!  Bring your children ages 4 – 11 and join us this summer for fun hands on activities and each child will also go home with a book!  Summer Adventures will be held at the UP (United Against Poverty) Center in Fort Pierce.  Please call to RSVP at 772-466-302-3147.      

Successful Student Work Skills Program Grows

FORT PIERCE, FL – “Student Perks: It’s More Than Coffee.”  This slogan, used to promote a student-run enterprise known as Student Perks, rings true for those who instituted a work skills opportunity that began percolating four years ago in the St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) Exceptional Student Education (ESE) program. St. Lucie Public Schools hosted a well-attended event for students and families interested in learning about Attractor Programs at Fort Pierce Central High School, Fort Pierce Westwood Academy: The WEST Prep, and Lincoln Park Academy. Attendees met with current students and staff from each school to gain information about their extraordinary programs.

First Lady Casey DeSantis announced a new website to collect family-oriented, kid-friendly recipes for a project designed to benefit the Hope Florida Fund. SWAT members, SWAT advisors and partnership members were recognized for their accomplishments with the new Tobacco Free Environment Policy #2.90 that was recently passed on July 23, 2013.

On Thursday, January 23, SLW Centennial High School held a special incentive event to reward academic excellence among its students. The top 100 students who achieved the highest scores on the FAST ELA PM2 assessment were treated to a delicious lunch from Chick-fil-A, creating an atmosphere of celebration and motivation. New York’s BFA Photography & Video School of Visual Arts selected the works of gifted student artists from Fort Pierce Central High School for an exhibit entitled 2017 America. Fourteen students from Ms. Heather Blackmon-Gordon’s classes have their works on display at the SVA Gramercy Gallery in New York City.  The total exhibit features a wide range of artistic perspectives from over 30 states. Students use Twister game to extend active play

Second grade students, from left, Dylan Rizzo, Sylvava Petrozzino, and Connor Kovich-Bousley in Traci Lott’s second grade class at F.K. Sweet Elementary enjoy exercising during extended physical education time by playing Twister. Twister is a game that is sure to stretch the body and exercise every muscle. The state mandated several years ago that every student receive an additional thirty minutes of exercise and active play daily.

Students Turnout for the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Showcase

Students from middle and high schools across St. Lucie County competed in the CTE Showcase. The student projects were focused on entrepreneurship categories which included 3D printed and Welded Fair, Ecommerce Products & Services, New Food Truck Concept, and the middle school entrepreneurship project. Southern Oaks Middle School students hosted their parents for a student-led conference night on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Parents were marked present as their students took the lead in instruction. Parents were informed by their children on their subject area performance. Students presented their best work, explained their learning, analyzed their district assessment scores, and discussed with their parents how they planned to improve their academic performance.
