Team Up Against Bullying Day

   On Wednesday, October 26th, the students and staff at Oak Hammock K8 school wore jerseys or sports shirts with jeans to “Team up Against Bullying”. An array of schools, colleges, and professional teams were represented. The students and staff enjoyed showing their team spirit to show that we stand together against bullying.

Team St. Lucie Finishes 5th In State

Earlier this year, St. Lucie Public Schools hosted the local version of the Commissioner’s Academic Challenge.  Here, local high school teams competed for top honors and individual team members vied for a seat on the prestigious Team St. Lucie – an elite six-member team representing St. Lucie Public Schools at the 34th Annual Commissioner’s Academic Challenge. This state competition took place in April at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn where the St. Lucie Team advanced to the Division 2 Finals and ended up finishing 5th in the state! Team Spirit

A team is only as good as its players, and St. Lucie Public Schools plays to win.  That’s why positive coaching, strong support, and a well-defined game plan with proven strategies keep this team motivated to win — for kids’ sake. School leaders donned their favorite team jersey for the September Principals Meeting, and Superintendent E. Wayne Gent had a little fun quarterbacking the meeting.

Team from Palm Pointe walks in Relay for Life

The team from Palm Pointe Educational Research School @ Tradition participated in the Relay for Life held at Digital Domain Park recently.  Students and staff proudly walked to support those affected in some way by cancer.  Many fundraisers were done at school to support the American Cancer Society.  Thank you to all those who helped support this great cause, it was truly appreciated!

Teachers travel on the Magical School Bus to the zoo

A loaded school bus of Title One teachers and STEM Science Support members headed to the Brevard Zoo’s Open House recently. The event had many displays from local and state science-related agencies. Teachers learned about the many field trip and educational opportunities available to them. They were also able to collect items for their classrooms and many won items in the free drawings! Our latest Dell Certified Educators worked with experienced Dell EMC consultants and SLPS district leaders to integrate best practices in the application of technology to their instruction, curriculum, and assessment. On their path to becoming Certified Educators, each developed a personal goal to facilitate learning in a technology-rich, student-centered environment. St. Lucie Public Schools recently hosted a unique and powerful event in the lives of our educators, ECET2 (Elevating and Celebrating Effective Teaching and Teachers). The event supported the four core messages of SLPS: academic achievement and excellence; high quality instruction; safe and caring schools; and recruitment and retention of high quality staff. Teachers go to Saturday school

Gifted teachers in St. Lucie County schools went to Saturday school recently at Morningside Elementary to learn how to solve the Rubik cube and utilize it in their classrooms. Morningside Elementary teacher Brad Culbertson, whose lessons have been featured in US News and World Report magazine, shared the engaging standards-based curriculum with 10 fellow teachers as they learned how to harness the cube for b ehavior management, creative problem solving, logical thinking skills, and that relic — delayed gratification! Teachers extend warm welcomes to new Village Green staff

As kindergarten teacher Patricia Collins stands and shares tidbits about herself, Village Green Environmental Studies School teachers look on with warm smiles and excitement as they ready themselves to welcome her to the Village Green family with applause. The process is repeated more times as they welcome Jacqueline Baptiste-Harris and Margot Williams to first grade, Ashley Foreman to the kindergarten team, and Erin Saunders as the new speech language pathologist. Gina Burns joined the second grade team after this opening day event.

Teachers are Learners at Fairlawn

Teachers gave up some of their summer break to take part in a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) training. Teachers worked together to create STEM Design challenges that allow students to solve real-world problems. They designed lessons that will give students the opportunities to collaborate with peers, design a model and test the model for effectiveness. Teacher Spirit Week – A Celebration of Creativity and Fun

Last week, our SLW Centennial teachers celebrated Teacher Spirit Week. This fun-filled event brought out the creativity and camaraderie among our educators. Each day featured a unique theme, encouraging teachers to showcase their playful sides and engage with students in a fun and memorable way.   Under Cover Day kicked off the week with a mysterious vibe as teachers dressed in all black. The hallways were filled with “secret agents” and “undercover operatives,” adding an element of intrigue and excitement to the school day. Three teachers were surprised the morning of January 26, 2012, when an entourage led by Superintendent Michael Lannon, school board members, district administrators and representatives of the St. Lucie County Education Foundation visited their classrooms to announce their selection as finalists for the 2013 St. Lucie County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.
