Aces Shine for Kids at Hope Day at Bayshore Elementary

Bayshore Elementary had a night where the Aces shined. Parents and students were invited to school to play games against the teacher, and possibly win prizes if they were able to beat the teacher. Teachers and parents were recognized for being Aces to students, and every student was able to win a prize in the end. Parents also received information about PBIS, and Kids at Hope all while having fun at the same time.

Accounting Operations

The accounting field is very diverse.  Bookkeepers and accountants work in a variety of industries including fashion, law, government, entertainment, sports, telecommunications, and marketing.  Students learn about manual and computerized accounting systems.  After graduating, students are ready to work in record keeping or go on to advanced training at the college level. Academic Team Competes In State Competition

ST. LUCIE COUNTY – St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) Academic Challenge Team was quick on the buzzer and correct when answering questions that would stump most individuals.  With a strong showing in the preliminary rounds of the 31st Annual Commissioner’s Academic Challenge competition, SLPS’s team qualified for the semi-final rounds and finished fifth overall in their division.  Teams from across Florida gathered at the Grand Floridian Resort at Walt Disney World for this annual academic statewide event. A. White Selected to Serve as Page

Ariana White, an eighth grade student at Palm Pointe Educational Research School at Tradition, will serve as a Page for State Representative Gayle Harrell in the upcoming Legislative Delegation session in Tallahassee, March 6-10. The exciting news came in an acceptance letter from Clerk Portia Palmer of the Florida House of Representatives. As a participant in this time-honored program, White will fulfill duties as a Page during committee meetings, House sessions, and press conferences. She will have opportunities to participate in tours of the Capitol, Governor’s Mansion, and other historic sites with other program participants.

A Welcoming Wave Kicks Off “NFL” at Fort Pierce Westwood Academy

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and academic success were the focus of this virtual Night of Freshmen Learning (NFL) for all 9th grade Westwood Panthers and their families.  Christina Coppola, a district SEL Specialist,  psyched up the audience with a fun welcoming ritual to create a sense of community for the evening.  The district SEL Parent Educator, Blondeen Newman, discussed her role and offered resources of everyday tips to being a successful high school student. A Wave of Excitement

Maddy Polina, a successful senior at the St. Lucie Virtual School, has unique skills and talents. Maddy manages her time between studies and training to make some significant accomplishments in a sport she loves – surfing.  Most recently, Mandy claimed the Russian Federation National Women’s Surf Championship.  She appreciates the support from her teachers, her principal, and most importantly – her dad. They provide help and encourage her so that she is able to realize her potential. A Visit To NASA

WEST Prep Academy students and cadets visited NASA and its STEM program.  They experienced the difficulties of programing and coding a robot in order to have a robot operate on the Moon and on Mars.  The event was managed by the JROTC cadets who did a remarkable job with managing time and resources.  It was great to hear all the positive comments from NASA and the transportation driver about student participants being one of the best behaved and motivated groups they’ve had. 

A Vision for the Future

St. Lucie Public Schools and Indian River State College work in collaboration to provide students with opportunities to experience a college campus, speak with individuals on site, and establish robust goals for their future.  Students recently participated in a 2017 Men of Color College Tour. Many former Fort Pierce Central High School students served as mentors for the tour.  These gentlemen are pictured here with Indian River State College President Ed Massey.
