LUCIE COUNTY — In a report released today by the Florida Department of Education (FDOE), St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) logged three A schools and eight B schools with six schools increasing their grades from last year’s baseline. In what has become an annual tradition, the Treasure Coast High School (TCHS) Titan Band Executive Leadership Team participated in a leadership workshop at Penny’s Band Camp. In mid-June, Eckerd College in St. Petersburg hosted this well respected four-day camp which has been training student leaders since 1972. At the Board Meeting following this reception, Outstanding Volunteers of the Year for School Year 2015-16 were announced. The winner in the adult category was Mr. Samuel Rodriguez from Weatherbee Elementary. The senior category winner was Ms. Carolyn Christ from Windmill Point Elementary. Treasure Coast High School’s Criminal Justice and Biotechnology students competed at the SkillsUSA State Conference in Lakeland, Florida. Students pictured, competed in a range of events from Career Pathways Showcase (Science and Public Safety) to Community Service. Students competing in Community Service, designed a fun way for everyone to get involved in a recycling program. SLPS is proud to announce that Manatee Academy’s team project entitled “Keep Port St. Lucie Afloat” is advancing to the Project Citizen National Competition in Los Angeles. Prior to receiving this honor, St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) had a weighted and impressive showing at the state competition which boasted a total of six middle school projects. Of these six projects that advanced to the state level, three were from SLPS. Those three were teams from Southern Oaks Middle School, West Gate K-8 (recognized as a top finisher in the local competition), and Manatee Academy.
