Village Green’s Annual Trunk or Treat and Boo Bash

Village Green’s PBIS team held their annual Trunk or Treat and Boo Bash on October 20th. Everyone had a great time at this family-fun Halloween event and fundraiser. We had more than 30 trunks for kids to trick or treat from and families were also able to explore the nature trail where a number of tables were set up for kids to visit and collect more candy! The Boo Bash dance was complete with a Haunted Hallway that spooked both the kids and adults!    

Village Green’s Annual Science Bowl

The 5th graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School participated in their Annual Science Bowl, which was held on Friday, May 2nd. It consisted of four homeroom teams- Team Corley, Team Ferguson, Team Thomas, and Team Venzen. This year was filled with fierce competition in which these World Changers were prepared to battle to an end. Students showcased their knowledge in science terminologies and preparedness for the End of Year science test. At the end of this Science Brawl, four awesome teams were down to one victorious winner. CONGRATULATIONS, Team Corley the competition was real, but you guys were resilient!

Village Green’s Annual Kickball Games

The PBIS Committee at Village Green Environmental Studies School hosted their annual students vs. teachers kickball games to kick off Spring Break. Students got to enjoy extra outdoor time and watch the friendly, but competitive, kickball games. Our Kindergartners and first graders watched the second graders put up a good fight against faculty and staff for the first game of the day. Village Green Wins at St. Lucie County Fair

BREAKING NEWS!! Village Green won THIRD place at the St. Lucie County Schools Fair Booth Display. The booth was a collective effort of artwork from all K-5 students through our PBIS Committee. Special THANKS to Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Ankiel, for coordinating and designing the booth with all of the wonderful entries! Village Green Thumb

Our first graders have a green thumb and are now able to enjoy the fruits (herbs) of their labor! Village Green’s first graders planted basil and cilantro seeds back in September and are now able to enjoy their first harvest. The students really enjoyed watching how a seed they planted can grow and thrive under the right conditions. We are very impressed by our little gardeners!

Village Green Third-Graders are Out of This World!

Third-graders at Village Green Elementary are showcasing their science projects in the cafeteria this week. Students had to create a 3D model of the Earth and the Sun at the completion of their Space unit. They also had to turn in a report answering specific questions given by their science teachers. Their reports included information about daylight hours, different seasons, and what the sun is made of.  They did a terrific job on their projects and presentations!

Village Green Teacher Wins Third Award from Governor Rick Scott

Jacqueline was honored as the 2015 recipient of the Governor’s Excellence in Education Award for the elementary (K-5) category. This award was accompanied by a check for $1500. During his announcement of this year’s award program Governor Scott said, “This February, as we celebrate Black History Month, we are honoring African-American innovators who have helped make Florida a great place to work, live and visit…Ann and I are also looking forward to recognizing some of the many great African American educators who are helping prepare our students for future success.” Mrs. Harris is no stranger to Governor Scott’s commendations. Village Green Teacher Receives Grant

Congratulations to 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Susan Chenoweth who is the recipient of the Retired Educators of St. Lucie County (CTA/CU) Innovative Grant! With the money awarded, Mrs. Chenoweth will purchase anti-blue light screens for every student laptop in her classroom.  Mrs. Chenoweth is pictured centered along with her very proud administrators, Ms. Avellino and Principal Lehman.  

Village Green Students Enjoy BINGO for Books

Village Green Environmental Studies School launched into literacy by hearing the excitement of students playing a game of BINGO for BOOKS. The Literacy Committee received 60 donated books from the Children Services Council, through the St. Lucie Reads Initiative Program to help support the love of reading! Every student had an opportunity to play BINGO for a chance to win a book!

Village Green Students Attend Fun Run and Safety Festival

Village Green Environmental Studies School was proud to participate in a Fun Run to benefit St. Lucie County Public Schools and the Education Foundation on Saturday, April 30th. We had over 90 students participate in weekly practice leading up to the event with 71 registered for the event. We are proud of the students and their families that attended! A special thank you goes out to Coach Copeland and Coach Saadah for taking on this venture for our school.

Village Green Student Gifts Hometown Heroes

On November 8th, Village Green Environmental Studies School’s own 4th Grader Brianna Bodo recognized several ‘Hometown Heroes’ through her service as a Girls Scout. She presented each honoree with a gift bag including several goodies from the Girls Scouts Fall Product Program. Pictured are Brianna Bodo with several St. Lucie County Firefighter/Paramedics, our own School Resource Deputy Lopez, Ms. Baptiste-Harris (1st Grade teacher at Village Green), and her current teacher Dr. Venzen (4th Grade teacher at Village Green). We are proud of Brianna and her dedication to service through the Girls Scouts of America. Way to go!

Village Green Steps Up

Students are encouraged to build healthy habits at Village Green Elementary School! Once a week during their PE class they are given pedometers to track their steps. Students are provided information on the positive health benefits of physical activity. The challenge is to increase their steps every week in order to maintain good overall health. Students have enjoyed monitoring their steps and activity and tracking their progress. They have also been doing a wonderful job motivating each other to achieve their health and activity goals!

Village Green Space Explorers

Third graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School enjoyed an educational and fun field trip at the Kennedy Space Center. They spent the day touring the Visitor Complex where they learned about authentic NASA science, technology, engineering, and math! Our students came face-to-face with Space Shuttle Atlantis and they learned about some of NASA’s very own Heroes and Legends while exploring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame. Students, teachers, and chaperones had an out-of-this-world experience during the behind-the-scenes NASA tour. It was a great experience for all!

Village Green Scientists

Fifth-graders at Village Green were engaged in researching matters that matter in MATTER. During this lab research/investigation led by fifth-grade teachers, Dr. Thomas and Dr. Venzen, students learned and had hands-on experience with the method of water displacement, using and understanding how to read a thermometer, along with making hypotheses and predictions. Students learned that it was possible to find the volume of irregularly shaped items, such as a rock, marble, shell, curved shaped magnet and the like. Students enjoyed their experience as a team. Village Green Remembers Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr

During the week of January 11-15th students at the Village Green Environmental Studies School participated in Kindness Week to remember the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  Various weeklong activities included an in-school field trip of the MLK Monument in Washington D.C., historic videos about the life of MLK, songs, and read-alouds about Dr. King as well as writing and drawing activities that highlighted Dr. King and his historic I Have a Dream speech.  Student work from the week was selected and placed in the main hallway of VGESS.

Village Green Perfect Attendance Incentive

What an epic day at Village Green Environmental Studies School! A whopping 222 students with perfect attendance during the month of December turned into wall-hanging artists as they taped our amazing Assistant Principal, Mrs. Drost, and Principal, Mrs. Boria to the wall in the cafeteria for everyone to see. Village Green PBIS Hosts Spooky Nature Trail

Village Green’s PBIS hosted the school’s 1st Annual Spooky Walk on Friday, October 29th.  This creative activity involved specific grade-level activities for all students. VPK-2nd grade students read, “The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything”, prior to going outside. Students were able to retell the events of the story while looking for clues out on the trail. 3rd-5th grade students participated in a Math & Word Scavenger Hunt. All students were thoroughly entertained throughout the entire day!

Village Green’s “Odyssey of the Mind” Team Lands a Win at Regional Competition

Situated between Marianne Futo and Christine Duane are students Dylan Rudd, Adrian Gallardo, Kayla Duane, Leah Murphy, Cody Cox, Matthew Futo, Leshal Ketwaroo A group of Village Green students traveled to Sun Coast Community High School in Riviera Beach, FL to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind Regional Competition. Village Green students in grades 3-5 won 2nd place in the Division I. They chose to participate in Problem 3: Pandora’s Box.
