Northport Students Engage in Idioms Opportunity!

Third grade Rising Star instructor, Lorena Wilson, and her students had a wonderful time celebrating Amelia Bedelia and Her Idioms Day recently. Students and teacher used the lesson as an extension of a study on figurative language. Mrs. Wilson dressed as Amelia Bedelia and students dressed as the literal meaning of idioms that they learned about in class. Students then invited other classes to come into the room and play “Guess the Idiom” game. Northport Deans, Billy Hicks and Georgia Stone, along with Clerk Kachina Hall, are doing a superior job of taking care of security at Northport. Northport Celebrates Eighth Annual Unity Day!

This year, Northport K-8 School celebrates our 8th annual Unity Day. Students from across the VKP-8 school make posters and banners and march throughout a path pre-marked by our PE coaches. All day long, during resource time, students can be seen marching, carrying homemade decorations and singing choruses of “No More Bullies! Golf Tournament Raises Awareness and Funds for Homeless Children

“Timing is everything.”  Never before has a statement uttered been more true.  This week, Soraya Rooney and an outreach team from First United Methodist Church presented St. Lucie Public Schools (SLPS) with a $2,000 check to support the needs of homeless children in St. Lucie County (SLC).  This windfall came from a golf tournament fundraiser held for just that purpose in August prior to the storms.   According to Kandiss Davis, Choice Program Specialist for SLPS, “Sixty percent of our inventory to aid homeless children registering for school was lost due to the flooding we experienced in our District offices.  … Read More

Educators coming together to help educators is the underlying theme of this year’s annual West Gate K8 Hispanic Heritage Festival and Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, November 18th on the school’s campus located at 1050 NW Cashmere Blvd. in Port Saint Lucie.  Community members are invited to enjoy music, games, live performances, and a variety of food from 1PM to 5PM. First Graders at Mariposa Elementary Discover 3D Shapes

Students in Mrs. Auciello’s first grade class at Mariposa Elementary used Play-Doh and toothpicks to create a 3-dimensional cube! The students figured out that they needed 6 Play-Doh vertices and 12 toothpick edges. Pictured are Andrew Newhouse, Jaxson Plantier, Malia Johnson, Jaistyn Thurston, and Madelyn Farrell. What a great way to learn about the defining attributes of 3D shapes!

Elks Care and Share

Ft. Pierce Elks Lodge #1520 has a heart for caring and sharing, especially when it comes to the youngest members in this community.  The organization’s Pantry and Backpack Program has made a positive difference in the lives of many SLPS children. On hand at a recent event were members of Chester A. Moore’s Administrative Team: Lauren Gieseler, Alisha Kennedy, and Terrance Barriner.  According to Mrs. Gieseler, the Elks Pantry and Backpack Program has made a tremendous difference in the lives of over 250 children on weekends.  At the event, the school was presented with 30 new backpacks and school supplies.  … Read More

The Giving Concert – October 25th

The sixth annual Giving Concert is planned for October 25th at Lincoln Park Academy in the auditorium located at 1806 Avenue I in Fort Pierce. The doors open to the general public at 6:30 p.m. and the concert boasting area choral groups begins at 7:00 p.m. The event, sponsored by St. Lucie Public Schools and organized by Choral Director Dr. Rolanda Jones, will support Grace Packs which, in turn, benefits students.  Grace Packs is a weekly weekend back pack program that provides necessary food items to students in need. Hispanic Heritage Night at White City Elementary

All families of White City Elementary were invited to attend Hispanic Heritage Night.  Students and parents shopped at the book fair, toured the Hispanic Heritage Gallery, and munched on tacos.  It was a fabulous, well attended parent night at WCE.  

2017-2018 Senior Pinning

On Wednesday, October 18th at Port St. Lucie High, the Senior Class of 2018 came together to commemorate their last year as seniors in a senior pinning ceremony. At this year’s ceremony, the graduating class broke the record for having the auditorium brimming with students and supportive parents. St. Lucie County’s Sheriff was the honored guest speaker for this event, and the Jaguar Color guard presented the colors for the Senior Class of 2018.
