Mosaic Owls Visit the Past and Seine into the Present

Mosaic Digital Academy students in grades 5-8 enjoyed a cross-curricular field trip to the St. Lucie County Regional History Center and St. Lucie County Aquarium. Visiting the past through the eyes of explorers, settlers, and industrialists, students traveled back in time to the turn of the century. A deeper understanding of the industries that helped shape St. Lucie County, such as fishing, pineapple plantations, cattle, and citrus gave students a better understanding of our county’s unique history. Mosaic Owls Take a Trip Through Space

On Friday, February 23rd, Mosaic Digital Academy elementary students took a “Trip Through Space” in the Hallstrom Planetarium at IRSC. Professor Jon Bell led students through our solar system and beyond, giving them the opportunity to learn about the sun, moon, and planets; understand black holes and how stars are formed; and explore the Milky Way. Students even had the opportunity to hold a 26-pound space rock!

Mosaic Owls Showcase Science Exploration at Earth Day 2023

Teachers and students at Mosaic Digital Academy know how to celebrate Earth Day in a big way! So much fun at the Oxbow Eco-Center Earth Day Festivities on April 22nd, with our student volunteers, Kyle Thompson (pictured explaining the microscope station with 5th-grade student Ronette), Sydney Saunches-Romero, Jaela English, Aniyah Mathis, Yajaira, and Derica Stewart assisting with the microscope viewing center, the caterpillars, and our trivia game!

We are thrilled to celebrate three of our incredibly talented students—Freshmen Samantha Gallagher and Annabelle Byers, along with 8th Grader Olivia Cole—who will be performing in The Nutcracker with @stlucieballet at @lyrictheatre this month. Mosaic Owls Pitch in at Pack the House!

Treasure Coast Food Bank kicked off holiday preparations again this year by packing 15,000 holiday meal boxes. The 9th Annual Pack the House took place Oct. 20 and 21 at Treasure Coast Food Bank, with hundreds of volunteers packing around the clock and Mosaic Owls stepped up to packing, too! Along with their teacher sponsors, Jasmine Gibert and Courtney Lorange, our Mosaic Youth Advisory members and Student Council members (Middle and High School) attended the event to support this important need in our community. Mosaic Owls Head to Oxbow!

Mosaic Digital Academy K-5 students traveled back in time on a fun, interactive historical journey through the Oxbow Eco-center Preserve. Students experienced events from Florida’s history from both a human and wildlife perspective while learning about Florida’s abundant natural resources. A deep look at how humans have altered Florida’s watersheds gave students an opportunity to think deeply about how they can protect this fragile ecosystem they call home for the future.

Mosaic Owls Exploring the Anatomy of a Frog

Mosaic Digital Academy instructor, Mrs. Linton, offered her 8th Graders the opportunity to participate in frog dissection lab experiences on campus this week. Mosaic Owls Attend “Saturday with a Scientist”

On Saturday, March 1st, 5th graders from Mosaic Digital Academy attended “Saturday with a Scientist” at Indian River State College, engaging in hands-on activities that brought their virtual science lessons to life. Students explored ocean acidification, seeing firsthand how CO2 affects pH and marine life. They extracted DNA from strawberries using simple materials, gaining insight into cell structure and genetics. A planetarium show deepened their understanding of space, while a visit to the robotics lab allowed them to control a robotic dog, exploring forces, motion, and technology. Mosaic Digital Academy presents their first Teacher of the Year Award to Mrs. Kahr. We are thrilled to have Carrie Kahr represent our staff as a trailblazer in our virtual instruction program here in St. Lucie County. Mrs. Kahr teaches secondary science offering hands-on lab exploration experiences for students in grades 4-12. Mrs. Kahr serves as our Science Fair Coordinator and recently hosted our annual science fair event with the theme, “The STEAM of Water Pollution.” Congratulations, Mrs. Kahr!

Mosaic Digital Academy Students Prepare for Literacy Week

In anticipation of “Celebrate Literacy Week” starting January 27th, Mosaic Digital Academy K-5 students visited their local public library to explore the plethora of free resources available to them. The Paula A. Mosaic Digital Academy middle and high school students participated in a FSA Writers’ Workshop with their instructor, Mrs. Amanda Kiefer, this week and became experts at using the State’s writing rubric to score sample writings from http://fsassessments.org/students-and-families/.  Middle grades and high school students will be given either an Informational or Argumentative Prompt on the FSA Writing Assessment on February 28th. Mosaic Digital Academy Students Participate in the Innovative “Build a Change” Project to Promote Sea Turtle Conservation Efforts and Environmental Awareness Students in grades K-2 engaged in the “Build a Change” project, where they collaborated to brainstorm ideas for supporting sea turtle conservation. These young change makers designed innovative solutions aimed at helping these remarkable creatures thrive. Mosaic Digital Academy’s first STEM field experience proved to be a very STEM-ulating day on the golf course. Mosaic students and teachers met at the PGA Golf Training Center in Port St. Lucie to learn the basics of physics and how this science discipline relates to the real-world skills needed in the sport of golf. Mosaic Digital Academy Student Earns Congressional Award

Mosaic Digital Academy’s Christine Bourgoin (Grade 10) earned the bronze award at the 2016 Congressional Award ceremony held on April 3, 2016 at Palm Beach State College. Christine completed 100 volunteer hours: 50 Personal Development, 50 Personal Fitness, and a 2-day, 1 night expedition.
