Schools Create a “Buddy Bench”

Later this spring, three Saint Lucie Public Schools: Morningside Elementary, Oak Hammock K-8, and West Gate K-8 will each receive a Buddy Bench. A Buddy Bench is anti-bullying, and keeps plastic out of the landfill!  It’s a brightly colored bench made from recycled plastic caps that’s also a ‘safe space’ – signaling when a child has a need, and teaches all of the children about the environment. Movies in the Fort

On various Thursday and Friday nights from January to May, parks in local neighborhoods will host FREE outdoor movies featuring today’s blockbusters and classic family favorites. Movies in the Fort gives residents in all parts of the city an opportunity to engage with their neighbors and community. Fort Pierce is committed to increasing access to family-friendly cultural opportunities, and this new movie series is a perfect example of this work. All movies begin at dusk. TCHS Air Force JROTC March

On March 2 and 3, 2019, the Treasure Coast High School Air Force JROTC will be conducting a 14 mile walk to raise awareness of those who survived and those who gave their lives in WWII during the fight for control of the Philippines. Community Comes Together for Southport Middle School Career Fair

The Southport Middle School Guidance Department held a Career Fair for our seventh and eighth grade students to support them in career exploration. The event tied into the Naviance classroom lessons that counselors facilitate, which promotes career awareness and helps students develop a deeper understanding of their talents, skills, and personality traits. The community really came through for this event, with professionals from a wide variety of careers for students to meet and greet. Annual Kickin’ It 5K Run/Walk

Please see the attached flier for the annual Kickin’ It 5K Run/Walk to benefit the Andrew Schmeer Foundation. The Andrew Schmeer Foundation honors the memory of Andrew Schmeer who, on September 8, 2014, was tragically killed in a car accident. Funds raised help to recognize well-rounded students along the Treasure Coast by providing college scholarships for those in need. Community Clean Up Day

Join the community of Port St. Lucie in a day of beautification!  On Saturday, April 20, 2019 from 7:30AM – 1:00PM, volunteers are needed to assist in clean up around the city.  Breakfast and lunch will be provided for volunteers.  To get involved, contact the Civic Center at 772.873.6312.

CBS 12 Tools for Teachers Recipient

Weatherbee Wins 3rd Place at SLC Fair

Weatherbee Elementary placed 3rd in the St. Lucie County Fair’s Education Display. Way to go Mariners! Thanks to Ms. Katelyn Donovan for planning our fair booth and to our Weatherbee students for their awesome art work!

Southport Middle School Project Citizen

In the 9th annual Project Citizen District Showcase, Southport Middle School students Johnathan Almeida, Abigail Ward, and Makenzie Fairchild presented their project entitled “The Overuse of Plastics in St. Lucie County” which created public policy on reducing plastic usage. The students worked hard for weeks after school to create and implement an action plan.  For their presentation, they explained how they would carry out their plan. Project Citizen is a county-wide initiative that helps to deepen students’ understanding of their Civics content. It teaches seventh grade students about legislation and promotes responsible participation in local and state government.

SLWCHS Navy JROTC provides Color Guard for Northport K-8

The SLW Centennial High School Navy JROTC was proud to provide a Color Guard to open the Black History Month Celebration at Northport K-8 on February 14th.  The Color Guard Unit consisted of Cadet Chief Petty Officer Michael Parnass (Right Rifleman), Cadet Third Class Petty Officer Damien Cooper (Ensign Flagman), Cadet Lieutenant Commander Matthew Ciolino (Unit Flagman), and Cadet Third Class Petty Officer Alek Yatsushkevech (Left Rifleman).  

Northport K-8 Wins Historic First Place

For the very first time in the 33-year history of Northport K-8, the school won First Place for the Educational Display at the St. Lucie County Fair! If you visit the fair, please make sure to visit the School Display Building and cast your vote for the People’s Choice Award.  

Northport K-8 Honors Good Citizens

Northport is so thrilled to present our February Students of the Month. Students are selected for good citizenship, being a good friend, stopping a bully, or following the Northport K-8 Positive Behavior Supports. Students are rewarded with certificates, cookies, juice, and a celebration! A wonderful job to students and thank you to all parents and grandparents who attended the event.

Lincoln Park Academy’s Project Citizen Finalists

Two groups led by Civics teachers  Alaina Moise and Tamara Lindo represented Lincoln Park Academy in the Project Citizen Showcase at IRSC on February 14, 2019. The first project entitled “Stop Human Trafficking” was presented by Molly Gillard, Alexis Bentinganan, Jaimy Ponceti, and Dalita Decambre. The second project entitled “Food Inspection Correction” was presented by Raul Pozniak, Ricardo Ramirez, Autumn Thomas, and Gabriel Vandermude. Of the three top spots, both projects placed in the top three to advance to the state competition. Congratulations on your success!

Farm to Table at FPWHS

Fort Pierce Westwood High School’s Agriculture program is growing a beautiful crop of cabbage. The cabbage will be put on the lunch lines in the cafeterias for students to taste and have a part of their meals.
