Northport celebrates third annual unity day

Northport K-8 celebrated its third annual Unity Day recently with a loud and clear message about the effects of bullying, especially cyberbullying. Students wore orange to signify unity and made posters, signs and banners to send their powerful messages that bullying will not be tolerated on the school campus. Joe Wojcik, better known as Joe the Biker, spoke to students on the morning announcements to kick off the day-long event, and students walked a mile-long trail marked out by school custodians. Northport celebrates success for all students

Northport K-8 students participated in a celebration of small increments of success with a focused looked at amounts of Adequate Yearly Progress in a PTO organized AYP celebration recently. Students who achieved progress on the FCAT test last year were treated to several styles of bounce houses and slides, popcorn, hoola hoops and snowcones, as well as the chance to dunk Principal Glenn Rustay and other members of the faculty and staff in the dunk tank. Northport is pleased to present our very first Honor Roll recipients for the 2018-2019 school year. Parents, grandparents and families are celebrating Principal’s Honor Roll, A and B Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance. We are pleased as punch to reward these accomplishments. Northport Celebrates Solid Partnership With BBBS!

Our school is so proud of our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters and the positive influence and impact that our mentors and tutors project on our students and school community. After rigorous, intensive work and deep critical thinking, Northport K-8 School students celebrated a third place win at the St. Lucie School District Project Citizen showcase. Students from Mary Ellsworth’s seventh grade Civics class prepared their project very competitively. The project is titled “What is the Cost of Ruining Your Child’s Education?” The topic centered around the issue of education and budget cuts and how the cuts have affected the purchase of textbooks for many classrooms. We are so thrilled to announce our Student of the Month for November. Students are selected for being a good friend, improving their attitude, standing up for someone else, being a good citizen and many other reasons. Students are selected by their teachers and sometimes, by a class consensus. We are so proud of these kids! Many thanks to all our parents who attended the Student of the Month. April is designated as National School Library Month! Northport 9/11 Children’s Memorial Library is a tribute to the learning and achievement that occurs on a daily basis at our school. Northport Celebrates National Kids at Hope Day

Northport K8 School celebrated National Kids at Hope Day by infusing a Power of Aces mini-lesson into morning (elementary) or 1st period (middle) on November 12th. The suggested activity included a class discussion on students’ Ace of Hearts and Ace of Clubs and why these adults are important, followed by writing thank-you cards to these Aces. Lessons also incorporated this year’s school theme, “Kids in Wonderland.” During drop-off and pick-up, parents received an Ace of Clubs card with an explanation about this special caring adult, as well as a copy of the Treasure Hunter’s Pledge.

Northport Celebrates Incoming Sixth Graders With Style!

Northport fifth grade graduation was a first-rate event! Just when you think you can’t celebrate one more thing, those fifth graders go and make the tears come to your eyes. The NP gymnasium was packed with parents, grandparents and families that truly care about the success and achievement of their children. Students were honored for perfect attendance and for highest achievement in resource, math, reading and science. Students then performed a musical number in unison facing their parents. Northport K-8 School Media Center is always alive with students, teachers, staff and community members buzzing in and out completing tasks that require information, information technology or conversation, but the week of April 14 – 20 is extra special. Northport celebrates holiday tradition

Northport K-8 community of teachers, staff, administration, parents and students recently celebrated the schools’ traditional Breakfast With Santa on an early Saturday morning. The PTO-sponsored event featured a homestyle breakfast, children in holiday pj’s and Santa Claus. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate community and to thrill children. Other Northport PTO-sponsored pending events include a Stevie B’s school fundraiser family dinner and a catered holiday luncheon for teachers and staff in the media center. The Northport K-8 School PTO is an integral piece of the school pie and the group offers strong support to the instructors and students at the school.

Northport Celebrates Grandparents Day 2018!

What a beautiful day @Northport. Grandparents came to visit and stayed for lunch. The school courtyard and cafeteria were filled with grandparents and their children enjoying food together. Rachel Ellsworth and the culinary arts students prepared a lovely taco bar and school lunch was also available. Every nook and cranny was filled with love, care and enjoyment of family! The Northport community was filled to the brim with joy and love today! Thanks to our grandparents for making Northport a pleasure to treasure. Northport celebrates graduates and honors DDay heroes

Northport K-8 School celebrated the annual formal eighth grade graduation ceremony recently with several hundred parents, grandparents and family members present in the school gymnasium. Instructor Angel Bracero, who is also the pastor of the Lighthouse Church in Port St. Lucie, gave a moving and funny imparting of words and advice as guest speaker, referencing George Jefferson and “Moving on Up,” encouraging students to always move forward and choose the right friends. Northport Celebrates Florida Literacy Plan

Northport K-8 students are celebrating literacy this entire week along with all the other schools in SLPS and throughout Florida. Students are making “Storybook Snowmen,” playing pre-k through 5 Bingo Challenge, Middle School Literacy Link Challenge, Get Caught Reading and Buddy Reading activities as well as “Chew and Read” and “Lollipop Reading!” Students are promoting reading and literacy skills throughout the school. They love to participate and it brings a focus on reading for pleasure specifically. Northport is pleased to participate in “Celebrate Literacy Week Florida!”

Northport Celebrates First Student of the Month!

Northport is so thrilled to host parents and grandparents at the very first Student of the Month. The Northport community celebrated students who for demonstrating good citizenship, being a good friend, stepping up for a friend in need, and for being an all-around good kid. The school loves to celebrate our children and take every opportunity to invite families into the school as partners in education.

Northport Celebrates Eighth Annual Unity Day!

This year, Northport K-8 School celebrates our 8th annual Unity Day. Students from across the VKP-8 school make posters and banners and march throughout a path pre-marked by our PE coaches. All day long, during resource time, students can be seen marching, carrying homemade decorations and singing choruses of “No More Bullies! What a wonderful morning @Northport K-8 School. We hosted a notable group of community service members who really care about our school. We partnered with Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Saint Lucie County and Americorps to bring the very best learning experience to our VPK-grade through three students.
