Weatherbee ‘Shines Bright’ At SLC Fair!

Weatherbee Elementary won 1st place for their school display in the 2021 St. Lucie County Fair contest presented by Sunrise Kiwanis Club. Our vision of the theme “Schools Shining Bright Under Carnival Lights” came to life through school-wide collaboration. Every department and grade group at Weatherbee was creatively represented within our fair booth, because our school shines the brightest through teamwork and the support of each other! Way to go Weatherbee!!

Weatherbee Sends Supplies To Haiti and Bahamas

The families, faculty, and staff of Weatherbee Elementary recently collected and filled over 100 shoeboxes with much needed health care supplies for our neighbors in hurricane stricken Haiti and Bahamas.  Mrs. Guermithe Ogé and Mrs. Darlene Sydné coordinated the collection drive.

Weatherbee Second Graders Showcase Their Talents

Weatherbee second graders showcase their talents! Recently, the whole grade participated in and voted for the best entries in their coloring contest honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. With just over 100 second graders at Weatherbee Elementary, each student colored a page for the competition. All of the six second-grade classes then voted on a winner from each class. Administration even voted for the best overall in second-grade! Weatherbee Receives Gold PBIS Model School Award

Weatherbee Elementary School has once again achieved Gold Level Model PBS School status. Recently, Dr. Lurana Hillard presented the PBIS team with a certificate of success for the 2013-14 school year along with gold pins for all faculty and staff.  Pictured is the PBIS team accepting the award.

Weatherbee Reads!

Weatherbee Elementary has just completed their book fair.  The name of every student who made a purchase, was put into a jar to draw for a series of free books.  The winners were: Dominick Baily, Ronald Cantarero, and Jyssel Nunez.

Weatherbee Preps for FCAT

The Weatherbee administration recently staged “Prep Rallies” for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. Students prepared for the high stakes testing by showing off their math and reading skills. Here, Bobby Lloyd is being put to the test by Principal Hitsman, AP Avellino, and Reading Coach Terrie Norris.

Weatherbee Media Center Students Shine!

Students at Weatherbee Elementary School are applying literacy and STEAM skills during weekly visits to the media center. Students create in the new Maker Space, read in the Library Living Room, practice fluency in the George Washington Readers’ Theater, and work on computer-based learning in addition to checking out their favorite books.  

Weatherbee Math Olympics

Recently Weatherbee hosted our first annual “Math Olympics!”  This exciting event was planned for students who passed a math facts fluency test.  Every student who showed proficiency on these quizzes was able to play Giant JENGA on the stage in the cafeteria and also invited to our outdoor Olympic event.  Students participated in the High Jump, Long Jump, Hula-hoop Hopscotch, and the Hula-Hoop Tire Challenge.  With over three hundred student in attendance, this was a very successful event.  All students and staff had a fabulous time and we can’t wait to start planning for next year!  

Weatherbee Mariners Learn About Hispanic Heritage

Weatherbee Mariners in Mrs. Edwards’ 2nd grade chose a Spanish-speaking country to research for Hispanic Heritage Month. Students were responsible for researching their country, drawing the flag, and writing one interesting fact that they learned through their research. Students then shared their findings with an oral presentation to their peers. Students did an amazing job throughout the whole process and learned so much from each other! 

Weatherbee Mariners Celebrate Literacy Week 2018

Weatherbee Mariners bid adieu to Celebrate Literacy Week!, Florida 2018 with an old fashioned parade. On Friday afternoon, students and staff joined the magnificent cavalcade of favorite book characters and vocabulary words parading through our hallways.  It was the crowning glory of a week filled with classroom door decorating, buddy reading, Dropping Everything And Reading, creating personalized bookmarks, and more.  Thanks to Literacy Coach Heather Bolitho and the amazing Literacy Committee for promoting a love of literacy at Weatherbee.   .                  

Weatherbee Mariners Catch The Wave To Empowerment In September!

Weatherbee staff and students wore yellow and caught the wave to empowerment on Friday, September 27th. Each class designed a surfboard illustrating ways they feel empowered or can empower others. Weatherbee’s motto this year is “Catch the Wave to Success” and the surfboards tie into that theme.

Weatherbee Kicks Off Literacy Week 2020

Weatherbee Mariners kicked off Literacy Week  with a school wide read-aloud courtesy of Mrs. Cassie Fess, AP, and Ms. Juliette Thelusma, Teacher on Special Assignment. They read The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig.  More activities are planned throughout the week.

Weatherbee Hosts Breakfast With Santa

Principal Michael Hitsman and Assistant Principal Jen Avellino welcome Santa Claus to Weatherbee on Saturday, December 5th.  Students and their families who attended the annual Breakfast with Santa event enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast, face painting, shopping at the PTO Holiday Shoppe, and getting their picture taken with the jolly old elf himself!

Weatherbee Hosts Annual Episodic Reading Day

On Friday, January 29, Weatherbee Elementary hosted its annual Episodic Reading Day. The event was a huge success and a perfect ending to the many activities planned for Literacy Week. The Women’s Volleyball and Basketball teams from Indian River State College shared stories with students and talked to them about the importance of sportsmanship and keeping good grades in order to participate in sports.
