For National Bullying Prevention Month, Southern Oaks Middle School teachers wore blue to show solidarity against bullying.

Port St. Lucie High’s Certified Nursing Assisting (CNA) Students under the Leadership of Registered Nurse Mrs. Jacklyn Cebelak, as they prepare to earn clinical experiences at Emerald Health Care Nursing Facility. The students performed tasks alongside licensed CNA’s to include vitals, tray passing, dressing, feeding & social activities. On Thursday, September 22, 2022, Indian River State College hosted a community conversation in support of Lee E. Rhyant, the former Executive Vice President and General Manager for Lockheed-Martin Marietta. Mr. Rhyant, a native of Fort Pierce and graduate of Lincoln Park Academy, highlighted his new book, Soaring Eleven Guiding Principles on the Path from Segregation to Success, co-authored with Dr. Catherine Lewis. Southern Oaks Middle School started a Hawk Hall of Fame in September. Students are being awarded with a certificate each month at lunch in front of their peers for following SOAR and CLE expectations. Students are now excited to be recognized in next month’s Hawk Hall of Fame.

The Children’s Services Council generously donated book vending machines to both White City Elementary School and Windmill Point Elementary School! In attendance at the ribbon-cutting ceremonies from the Children’s Services Council were Chief Executive Officer Sean Boyle, Chief Operating Officer Ashley Mock, and Community Engagement Coordinator John Cesar. The Port St. Lucie High School Athletic Department, headed by Athletic Director Harold Barnwell spent lots of time collecting bottled water, a variety of food, toiletries, and cleaning supplies to help our neighbors affected by Hurricane Ian. We are so thankful that we did well during the Hurricane and want to support our fellow Floridian’s as they begin the huge task of recovery.

Meteorologist Vanessa Vinet from WPBF Channel 25 brought weather lessons to life for 5th graders at Village Green Environmental Studies School. First Alert Weather Classes provide students with an opportunity to interact with local meteorologists, learning more about weather systems and how these professionals use science to predict the weather. The Westwood Army JROTC Raider Team competed in an Area 3 Raider Meet at Port St Lucie High School. Raider Meets are very physical competitions that the Cadets train for every week during “Raider Season” (Mon-Thurs 2 pm-4 pm). The team attends 4-6 of these meets per fall. The Westwood Cadets squared off against eight other teams from various high schools located all along the Treasure Coast. Students in Ms. Mercado’s class are learning the different roles of a pizzeria at an Italian restaurant. Check out these awesome chefs serving some delicious pizza and pasta! The customers are enjoying the amazing food cooked by our own WBE students.

Students in Mrs. Brigitte Martin’s Spanish classes celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month this week at Port St. Lucie High School. Students participated in a variety of activities over the past few weeks to grasp a better understanding of Hispanic Heritage and cultures at Port St. Lucie High. 

Ms. Debbie from 4-H visited the first grade with her new service puppy Buddy. Students learned how to care for a pet, the basic needs of pets, and how to approach a strange pet. Students enjoyed getting to pet and interact with Buddy.

On October 1st, 2022, the Port St. Lucie High School Army JROTC Raiders hosted the 1st Raider meet of their season. The Raider competition consisted of 5 events: a 2.3-mile run, 1-mile litter carry, HUMVEE push, constructing and crossing a rope bridge, and tire flip. The Jaguar Battalion male and female teams placed 1st overall and the mixed team placed 2nd. Congrats to all the teams as they compete next week at South Fork High School.

Many thanks to science teacher Ms. Donovan for arranging and scheduling the entertaining FPL program for Weatherbee’s second and third graders. Students had a great time learning ways to conserve energy!
